Trouble at the Homestead - Jeor Run

	 Its a simple job, an elderly farmer by the name of Herbert (Old Man Herbert by the locals) is having a spot of trouble wih some vermin on his farm and has sent for adventurers to clear it out. Its a few days travel from Alexandria but the region is relatively free of the turmoil of wars and politics and with the sun shines brightly, a perfect day to hunt som rats or whatever is bothering this poor old man. 

	 The farm is little more than an old but well kept farmhouse and a small barn atop of a small green hill. Cows graze in a nearby pasture and even from a distance a figure can be seen sitting on the front porch.

Klythos, the goblin artificer, travels by dog, that is a riding dog. They are very useful when your a small person, as you can get around indoors, and they really let you know before they deficate, unlike horses, who your just walking along, and plop, there it goes. So, this goblin is now arriving at the farm with the rest of the group, not a very talkative goblin though, so most of the trip he has just said a few words if questioned, otherwise he tinkers with his armor and devices.

Belladona has accepted the job as it gets her out of the city, even though it is into the farmland. She and Samafa, her lioness companion, are enjoying the fine weather and a good walk. She has her wooden shield on her back and her shiny metal orc claws are on her left side. The lioness sniffs at the dog and slowly licks her chops, but so far she has made no aggressive movements towards the other animals. Rayne has partially disconnected. Rayne has shown up because thats what bards do, to provide the entertainment for the party and provide a nice backup.. she has been traveling on her warpony and every time it steps a jingle of noise can be heard

Mitneisk has come to this land for adventure and when she sees the notice up that some farmer is looking help from adventures, she takes another bite out of one of her rations that she got from her bag and hrms at it. Her tail gently sways as she weighs out if it would be really worth it and then with a final bit of her ration and her 'walking stick' in hand, the young Sith'makar heads on her way to the farm yard.

Once she does arrive there she finds others already here. One of them she remembers seeing at the front of the gates once she arrived. He was messing around with-- some type of device to fly. He also nearly created a problem with grass fire. Though her violet purple reptilian eyes are drawn to the lion that is Belladona's companion and tilts her head ever so slightly.

Her gaze though leaves from the Lion, to others here and then to the farm. Which is when she leans on her Quarterstaff. "I wonder how hard it could be to get rid of vermin?" She decides to ask perhaps to herself or the group here. "..and I wonder if we capture the rats if they will make a good stew." That one was then hard to tell if she was being serious-- or not.

Corra has come with the others moving with her horse easily towards the directions they were given, as she gathers with the others she smiles, "Good to see you all." she says and is ready to find out how she can help the farmer. Lorien arrives with the group. Today his silks are crimson and black, as he adjusts the strap of his rifle about the shoulder, symbol of Eluna on it, matte-black, silver sheen. The youth glances a bit towards the others, "Seems simple enough," he says, as he smiles, "Rarely is," he adds. Belladona, and Rayne, get a wave, people he knows. When he notices the woman Mitneisk, a Sith'Makar, he speaks. But it's with the tongue of Draconic, "Greetings," he speaks, as he relaxes and adjusts his cloak about his form.


	 As the group approaches the individual sitting on the porch gets to his feet and wanders to the party, this must be old man Herbert. He appears like an ancient gaunt figure with a pair of bib overalls hanging off his frame and a straw hat on his head "Hmmm... you da adventurers I gone and sent fer'?" he says as he draws closer, only three teeth left in his wrinkly mug, a battered old crossbow in his palsied hands.

The goblin artificer doesn't respond, figuring one of the larger folk can talk to the man. Instead he adjusts a dial on his armor, click, click, click, then he just looks around, perhaps trying to figure where the vermin problem is.

Corra nods, "Yes sir, and we are glad to be of service." she says as she dismounts and steps towards the porch a little. Belladona gives a look around to the farm and she looks over at Mitneisk, "I doubt it will be as simple as that, but if it's large rats we have a large cat." She says with a smile as she leans down to scritch Samafa's ears. She looks over towards the farmer and nods, "Aye we are here to help you with your vermin problem." Rayne holds her tambourine on her hip and her bow in her hand, she moves off her pony and forward enough to look at the old man

Mitneisk smirks a little at what the Druidess has to say, before looking over to the farmer, which she stands up straight and goes to rest the quarterstaff on her shoulder. She gives the old man a firm nod, but keeps to rather the back of the group. Mostly to watch and see what they do.

Though that is when she hears her native tongue spoken and her violet purple eyes peer at who speaks it. To find a young man being the one who did so. She cants her head to the side before she speaks back in the same tongue as Lorien spoke, "Greetings." Though it had a mild sound of confusion in it.


	 Old man Herbert gives each individual a good long look over and shakes his head "Well.. I might be feedin' them instead of havin' them removed but I suppose your what I got." he takes a few shake steps to the side of the house and points to a wooded gully not too far away. "The nest is over 'n there by the river. Let me know when your done. If your all dead let me know that too. An' keep your beast away from ol' Bessy out in the field. She is frightened enough by your ugly mugs as is." the grumpy old man mentions indicating the cows in a nearby pasture.

Corra cocks her head to the side, "What exactly are they, what type of vermin?" she asks as she smiles a little and does look that way. Rayne says, "nest of what exactly?" she asks slowly "and how do you know if we are all dead?" she looks to the cow in the field and she nods her head "Bessy is frightened by your lack of manners.""

Klythos doesn't really react to the mans response, instead looking at the reaction to the group, he appears amused by everyone freaking out over the guy assuming they are going to die.

Belladona looks over at Lorien, "We are both as beautiful as we are deadly." She nods, "Just what kind of vermin are we talking about here? Rats? Dire Rats? Dire Weasels?" Lorien asks all-importantly, "By what method would you like your informing that we were killed, mail, or haunting?"


Mitneisk snorts softly, "Death is not on the plans." Though she gives a nod as two of them ask what they are, "Yes. Do tell us what we face against."

As she waits for that response she looks over to Lorien, her words slipping back into Draconic. "You do not offend me, you have just confused me." She grins faintly, almost showing those sharp predator teeth of hers. "I did not know those not from our lands could speak the tongue of our ancestors."


Old man Herbert rolls his eyes "Well if your all dyin' I hope one of you has the sense to run but its some toothy beasts I don' know the name of. Been eating my crops and scaring my cattle. Weasels you say? Nah' would know if it were a weasel but it seems close. On your way now, get goin'!" he exclaims with a grimace.

Klythos shrugs, and nudges his dog to start heading in the direction the old man pointed. "Go kill now." Then the goblin starts off, though he will look back to ensure more folks are coming, he isnt suicidal.


The Sith'makar of the group nods to Belladona. "Agreed." She does stare at those claws. She may have seen such by her own people who were walkers of the woods and swamps. But she was unsure. She never did lessons very seriously after all.

When Lorien speaks about Mitneisk's people and her Empress. There was a deep inhale, but nothing much was really said. Instead she lowers down her Quarterstaff and starts to walk. Her eyes scanning over the area looking for any hint of what these creatures may be or if she can even spot one from a distance before the group happens upon one.


Through the green fields and over a hill the party comes on a small gully leading to a rivers edge, surrounded by brush and woods there is only one steep path. 

However there are no vermin. 
As the party descends into the depression zombie figures start rising from the floor and the waters edge, there is even on hanging from an ankle in a tree.

Klythos looks around, frowning, then looks back at the house. "Its a trap." He says calmly, assuming that this was a setup, and herbert is an evil necromancer.

Belladona sees the zombies and she starts to cast a spell. She touches Samafa whose fangs start to grow.

Corra sees the zombies, but was ready for something and she starts the process of casting a spell getting it off quickly. Her eyes widen and become raptor-like and she grows some feathers on the side of her head.

Klythos reaches up, adjusting a few dials on his armor. After the faint clicks, the armor starts to hum, a few crackles of electricty arcing across it as he does. He then begins to ready his death ray, adjusting a few dials as he calmly looks over the zombies.

Lorien gives Mitneisk a frown, as if he had said something which upset her. He seems to actually beat himself up mentally. On their way, when the zombies arrive, he comments, "And then Jack was a Zombie," he says, and swings back his Ray fom his belt. He flicks at a few switches on his armor he wears, and then flicks a trigger and pulls it forward, launching a ball of flame which sears clean into a zombie.

<OOC> Jeor says, "Your suprise round action please?"

<OOC> Mitneisk double checks spells <OOC> Mitneisk says, "How close are the zombies and is their any objects around us?" <OOC> Jeor says, "40ft," <OOC> Jeor says, "Theres rocks, trees, bushes. Nearer to the zombies theres some stuff in the mud and dirt. A few old stray items of clothing like a boot or glove." <OOC> Mitneisk says, "Ok. Can't do that cause that is a limit of 15 feets, soo-- gonna try to distract the zombies by casting Ghost sound in the opposite direction of us." <OOC> Jeor says, "Hrm ok!" <OOC> Jeor says, "Will have to wait until they go to see the reaction, but there is a distracting noise behind them!" GAME: NEW ROUND!

Mitneisk follows the others and suddenly notices over them that their are zombies. She-- has never seen a zombie before and growls lowly at the sudden dislike for what is before them. With her hand extended out, she whispers words and attempts to create a loud clatter sound behind the zombies. Maybe that will cause them to look that way-- maybe.

Corra takes a deep breath and then she moves forward a bit, and pulls two arrows out, loosing them at one of the zombies. Both arrows strike deep, but then they are zombies so they don't hurt them as much.

<OOC> Jeor says, "Which one, there 4 healthy, one Corra shot and one Lorien shot that Bell is mauling." Rayne tries to shoot a zombie but her first arrow misses, she concentrates on her song the way only rayne dose, she moves with her tamborine on her hip and the thump tap jingle sound fills the air in tempo. She is able to shift between her instrument and her bow, her second shot lands aflame on a zombie

The zombies are a tatered remain of some kind of armed people, rags hang off there rotten flesh frames as they ar ebeing shot to pieces. Two however attack Belladona with rusty old sword while three other shuffle closer to the group, deep moans escape from thier throats. You know normal zombie stuff. The last however seems to be distracted by a noise on the other side of the river, deciding which way to go.

So can he get around the zombies and position himself within 20 feet of Corra's?" <OOC> Lorien says, "without drawing AoO?" <OOC> Jeor says, "Yes." <OOC> Lorien says, "He will do that, and then take a shot at it." <OOC> Lorien says, "Corra's." <OOC> Jeor nods. <OOC> Jeor says, "Rolls it." <OOC> Jeor says, "Roll it even." Two on Bell 40 feet away, 2 more moving closer about 10 feet away and one standing around at 40 feet." <OOC> Klythos says, "Hrm...I'll cast Scorching Ray on one of the two moving closer at 10 foot away. While using my dog move to back away about 20 feet." <OOC> Jeor says, "Roll it."      Round Two - Init 3.
     It is now Mitneisk's turn! Belladona is next!

Klythos guides his dog back a bit, adjusting dials on his death ray. The energy coming from his power pack glows red, and a burst of firey death launches out towards one of the zombies. Unfortunately it manages just to sear its arm, its still coming. The goblin glowers.

<OOC> Jeor says, "Mit! 2 zombies at 10 feet and 3 zombies at 40." <OOC> Mitneisk says, "So. Remember how you said there was a boot?"

Lorien looks at the approach of the zombies, "They're kinda slow," he asides towards Mitneisk and Klythos, as he shifts by Rayne and the others to take up a new position as he skirts and edges towards where the most hurt zombie takes position. He then takes his hand and shifts his Ray so he can give it a twirl and heft it up. He slams one of his hands under it, and then places his finger at the trigger so that it charges the magic artifice. As he does, he then releases it, as he speaks with the Celestial language melodically, "May your soul be purified by the flames beneath the silver moon!" he exclaims, and then as his finger slips from the trigger that charged it, a charged ball of red mana energy sears right into the zombie's head which takes it clean off in a conflagoration of flames, the body dropping towards its knees and onto the ground.

<OOC> Mitneisk says, "we are gonna do something kinda crazy and mage hand that boot and fling it one of the zombies at 10 feet." <OOC> Jeor says, "Hrm, ok!" <OOC> Mitneisk says, "what do you want me to roll for that?" <OOC> Jeor says, "Roll a ranged attack roll." <OOC> Mitneisk nods GAME: Mitneisk rolls 1d20+3: (2)+3: 5 <OOC> Mitneisk says, "Diice do not like me." <OOC> Jeor says, "It misses! Good try though! :)" GAME: NEW ROUND!

Rayne has one on fire from her blazing arrows, she keeps her distance as she inspires courage into her party

Lorien leans back as a zombie comes towards him. He sniffs, and then swivels his foot to back up and lifts up his Ray, taking another shot. It strikes it and sears the creature, "I'd love nothing more than them yielding so we can put them out of the misery of being the undead."

Klythos continues to adjust some dials, then slams his fist on his weapon. It starts beeping and he yelps as the weapon vibrates, he quickly points it at the Zombie on Rayne, and a ray blasts out cutting the zombie in half, and destroying a tree behind it. The goblin blinks, then grins.

Mitneisk has been unsuccessful with attempt by booting a Zombie, so the Sith'makar moves in for the more direct approach when one is shambling to one of the other adventures. She swings her staff at the shoulder of the zombie. Her eyes locked with it as she snarls out in draconic. "Over here you rotten corpse!"

Rayne turns and levels her bow she takes a step back and aims, letting an arrow go its flame red on the air striking the zombie on Lorien and bringing it down. She shifts in battle and continues to rap, tap tap on her tambourine

The goblin artificer keeps circling the fight and firing his weapon. This time the dog moves closer to the final zombie, and dials are adjusted by the goblin. The power pack now glows green, and a blast of green goo fires out, encasing the zombie and electrifying it since the goo was chaged. The zombie smolders as the goo hardens around it, holding it upright, and no it is re-dead.

After the last zombie is destroyed it becomes clear something unusual is going on. Theres a zombie hanging from an ankle in a tree and a few large blood stained stones near the waters edge look out of place. Not to mention all the bits of random gear in the mid and shallow water.

Soon there was no zombies left and Mitneisk snorted softly. She cut a glance off to the side at her own silently thoughts, before peering around. "Were these really the vermins? Why not say walking corpses, instead of vermins." She is very tempted to poke the zombie in the tree with her staff. She just stares at it oblivious to the fact that there is all types of horrible signs probably around her that stuff is so wrong here.

Klythos grunts, and adjusts a few dials on his death ray. "Is trap. Farmer evil." He nods his head a few times, like this is totally obvious.

Lorien lowers down his weapon from the zombie that got an extravagant send-off. He then turns his attention towards the others, "I don't trust the old man that gave us the task," he says, as he speaks with Mitneisk, in Draconic, hints of concern, "You're okay, right?" he asks. He then shifts his weight, "Evil is subjective, he could be a pawn unwilling."

Mitneisk looks over at the Goblin. "..Then I guess we probably will not get our pay once this is over." she then mutters something under her breath about 'not like I deserve'.

The Sith'makar then looks over to Lorien and grunts, "Annoyed." She admits in the common tongue. "You?"

Rayne has disconnected. You paged (Lorien, Belladona) with 'You both notice what appears to be some poorly hidden barrels behind some bushes.' <OOC> Jeor says, "Lost another!" <OOC> Mitneisk says, "Dum dum dum, another one bites the dust." You paged (Lorien, Belladona) with 'In fact it both of you also notice that all the zombies have had thier throats cut, probably what killed them.'

Klythos shrugs, and points back towards the farmhouse. "Go talk, find truth." He then waits to see who is going to head back, he wasn't hit, so he isn't exactly concerned with zombie disease or anything.

Lorien points at the zombies, as he answers, "Their throats seem like they were cut," he answers, as he speaks towards Mitneisk, "Oh, sad really, about what they suffer," he adds, apologetically. He then makes his way to some bushes and brushes them out of them way.

<OOC> Lorien also, getting sleepy.

Behind the bushes that Lorien reveals there are several short barrels stacked, each apparantly full of some kind of liquid, blood stains cover the outside.

<OOC> Jeor says, "Seems folks are fading, how is everyone holding up?" <OOC> Klythos says, "I've got about 30 more minutes before I need to get to bed"

Mitneisk shakes her head to Klythos, "If others want to go find out, they can. Though may be wrong what he has done, but that one," She motions to Lorien, "Is correct. He may not behind all this-- but being played by someone else. Tool, not the tool master."

Mitneisk watches Lorien move some bushes out of the way, she just cants her head to the side, unsure to investigate what he has found, or remain back while others continue to investigate the area.

Belladona nods in agreement with Lorien, "Yes their throats do look to have been slashed open." Samafa starts to sniff around the bushes.

Klythos sits on his dog, and shrugs. "Look here, ask man, all ways find answer. Do both, not one. Maybe evil, maybe not. No find out not ask." Wow, most he has said in a while.

Lorien looks at the barrels, and then shakes his head a little. He moves to open up the barrel, speaking to Samafa, "Stand back, while I open this," he says, hopefully to keep the creature safe. He speaks back towards Mitneisk, Belladonna, and Klythos, "I have a feeling this might help," he adds.


The barrels when opened are filled with... more blood! Just nothing but blood, which very likely came from the living corpses that where just destroyed while they were still living, or close to living.

Its at that moment that Old Man Herbert appears at the mouth of the gulley. "What have you done!" he cries out. "Now I will never make the delivery!" he shouts and raises his old crossbow.

Lorien holds up his hand a little, "Friend, if you shoot, then at least take a shot at me first," he says to distract the old Herbert. Then he smiles, a bit slowly, "Friend, you are outnumbered, and we don't wish bloodshed, come with us quietly, explain what has happened, if you were forced to make such deliveries and do such deeds, I'm sure it will work towards you, but we can't actually give a free leave." He sheaths back his weapon, and folds his hands together.

Klythos nods "Evil. I win." He moves his dog off to the side, keeping range with the old man. The power pack glows green as the goblin adjusts dials, and then fires forth a blast of electric green goo. It doesn't pin him down, but it does give him a nasty shock.

Belladona turns away from the zombie corpses and she looks up at the old man, "You killed these people didn't you?" She doesn't wait for him to answer, "Samafa attack!" She calls out as she goes up after the old man.

Herbert grimaces "You stupid kids! Why did you have to mess with a good thing. Better you than Lord Hexeris." he mutters the last part mostly to himself as his hands deftl fire and reload the old crossbow. Its very clear from the way he expertly fires and reloads he is not an ordinary farmer.

Mitneisk rests her quarterstaff across her shoulders with her hands resting on that. Her head canted to one side as she watches the young man investigate-- whatever he is investigating. Though she also watches the lion with some keen interest as well.

Then Lorien explains what he has found and the silverish blue Sith'makar growls, her words switching to Draconic, "What? Then this whole thing was..."

And that is when the old man has shown up, spouting what he spouts and readying his crossbow. That tells Mitneisk what she needs to know and her Quarterstaff comes to her side as her tail twitches faintly. She then listens to Lorien try to talk the man and down and rolls her eyes gently. "Wasted words on him. You should fight, because I take back my thoughts. He is the tool master." she says to him in draconic before attempting to send out a bolt of ice at the old man, but ends up missing. Seems to be the story of her life this day.

The goblin seems not to be worried about taking him alive. "Is evil, I win bet. Pay later." He fires off another blast of green electric goo, once more shocking the old man, but not being able to keep him held in place.

Herberts yells "This is for your good you fools! You would only perish trying to protect me! You have no idea what is coming!" he bellows as he fires more shots, the nimble old goat of a man firing more bolts at Bell who is trying to maul him, one however is aimed at the Mitneish apparition and passes harmlessly through.

Lorien keeps on making his steady walk onwards, as he approaches the old man Herbert. All he asks is, "Why?" While he's normally be political and diplomatic, it seems at this point he can't for the moment, and all he wants to know is what has this coot so scared.

He moves along side Herbert and then raises his weapon, grinning as he adjusts more dials, this time, well the energy coming out of his pack looks like a rainbow as it flows down the hose to the weapon, then thats what comes out. A blast of rainbow colors hits Herbert in the face.

The final strikes manage to drop the crotchity stunned old farmer, his battered old crossbow at his feet. Clearly no ordinary farmer but quite skilled even with a abttered old weapon like his. Upon closer inspection there is an unusual medal around his neck, the words on simply state "For valor against the old evil."

Those with some local or religious knowledge know such medals where handed out years ago to a group of adventurers that defeated an evil vampire that plagued the area. A story often told in the region and it seems likely that Herbert was one of those adventurers. 

Final when the barrels are inspected one is tagged with an address for a castle deep within Dragonier.
