Tiles and Tribulations
The nobility district. A splendor of technology, artistry, opulence that gradually, if visibly, lowers in level the further from the castellum one is. Even then, the outskirts are as fine, or moreso, than the best of the lower city. Save for a section immediately adjacent to the mouth of the mountain road.
Much of the rubble and debris have been cleared from the roads and paths, themselves. Now much of the "remodeling" work is focused on the buildings: some have shattered windows, others lost decorations or buttresses, and a few are missing most of their road-facing walls. Un'eth is currently near one of the shattered stone once-walls, speaking with a another; likely a craftsmason of some sort given his gesturing to the remaining portions and pieces of fresh or salvageable stone nearby.
Showing off her experience as a sailor. The black and platinum clad inquisitor is helping with the construction going on at multiple levels: Tying things in place with professional ropework. Helping the locals set up and use simple cranes to loft up pallets of building materials, making sure said loads are balanced secure...safe. Right now she's riding a load of bricks to an upper level of a building missing a wall and watching the goings on below and above with a chary eye. People can be rather silly about things overhead.
Un'eth is far from the only one engaged in such work. The load of bricks that Mercy rides is destined for an area of the building where whatever hit the buildings rendered part of the structure unsafe. With the help of a mage at the base of the structure, conjuring invisible walls of pure magic and holding them, the stonemasons have removed the damaged stone and are in the process of reconstructing the corner supports. Right now, this section is leaning on those walls, but the young man they sent to do the mage-work seems to have matters well in hand. A fair young man with strawberry-blonde hair, cut short in a military cut, Seldan wears loose shirt and trousers under a sleeveless, midnight-blue robe that connects with a chain at the front and depicts celestial figures all over it, picked out in silver thread. He carries no evidence of weapons, or anything else save for a knapsack that rests at his feet.
Mercy nods to both Un'eth and Seldan, unlike the paladin she's still maneuvering in her chain mail and weapons loadout, a collection of light repeat crossbows bouncing around occassionally visible beneath her cape. She moves a adroitly enough but the gear is obviously keeping from showing off a true sailor's monkey-like Panache. She Shouts to Seldan.
"There's a load of green slate tiles next, Where do these almond coloured bricks go?
The magic supports do make the structure both sturdy enough to prevent further damage and also aid in the restoration. The lower portion of the building, and of the same supported wall (or where one was and should be), Un'eth now shapes the heavy supporting stones per the mason's direction. She is not a craftsperson nor engineer, yet her sclupting of of the chunk with her bare claws is far quicker and efficient than chisels. It also allows for a more perfected fit as it is slid into place.
Hearing the shout about, and not realizing where it is directed, she hisses upwards, "Wesst wall!"
Seldan is really the wrong person to ask where the bricks go, but he, too, looks up at the call - and catches the response. "To the west wall!" It is the first time he has spoken to anyone but the foreman, and that in quiet tones, and the voice proves to have a distinct Myrrish lilt to it. His attention appears to be elsewhere, his focus on reinforcing the support from where he is at the bottom.
That appears to be well in hand for the moment, though, and he briefly turns his attention to the air above him, shielding his eyes with a hand to watch the pallet rising into the air. Evidence suggests that once cast, whatever is reinforcing the wall will last four a couple of hours before fading away, and so the man turns away from the bricks towards the next load of tiles to go up.
The flamboyantly dressed woman, gestures expressively to the crane crew and get's them swinging the load to the west wall. The pallet lands with a not so gentle thud and rattle atop the wall and she shakes a finger 'naughty!' at the inexperienced crane crew. "Thanks, Delivered. Green Slate Tiles next.
She grabs a dangling rope in her gloved hands and slithers down to the ground in one swift motion. She then heads over to where the workers are loading up said pallet and smile brightly starts uncoiling some rope. To Seldan and Un'eth she shouts
"Mercy Hjarlhundr! Well met!"
She pauses her rope work to remove her plumed hat with one hand, flourishing it about in a complex greeting to both of you.
Un'eth turns to Seldan and the vertically-arriving colorful woman now that another stone is in place. Her tail thumps the ground lightly. "Peace on your nests. This work would be done sooner if less ... pieces were needed. Green here, red there, this wood there, that stone there..."
"And upon yours also, Un'eth," Seldan replies pleasantly, eyes on Mercy after that flamboyant demonstration. "So it would, but construction is less simple in these places. Consider it - a reminder." A reminder of what, he does not say, but instead turns to Mercy. "Seldan Padaryn, servant of the Dreamer." He uses an epithet to refer to Eluna, whose crescent-and-sphere hang prominently and openly around his neck. "You work hard. Are the tiles assembled, or must they be moved?" He looks around for the tiles in question, clearly not in charge of the reconstruction effort.
While she uncoils the ends of a couple of ropes she had previously fed under the pallet of tiles, she speaks again. "Indeed honoured lady but we do the work of JUSTICE! the people need their homes and workplaces repaired."
To Seldan she adds "Well met fellow servant of a diety. The tiles are on the pallet but if you could help hold them in place while I tie them down it would be most appreciated." --She briefly caresses the platinum dragon on her tabard as if to identify HER master.
"As you will." Rather than a spell to hold the tiles in place, Seldan moves towards the pallet, pinning the corners of the tiles with his hands to secure them for transport. There is a flash of recognition of the platinum dragon in his eyes, when they flick to the symbol, but he waits until he has the tiles secured before asking. "A servant of the Draco Solis, I see. It is well that so many come together in this effort."
"I am Un'eth, Shaman of the Tyrranik," the sith offers to the rope-woman. She then looses a light snort. "They are wasteful of matierlas, and land. More home than is needed for so few. Less room for larger streets." A pertinent note, though her tone is light. She aid the rebuilding per their requirements, not her own suggestions, afterall. "I hope that they will consider that a reminder, asss well," she notes as claws gesture to far larger clawmarks in the street; enough to be visible, yet not a hinderance to travel.
Mercy nods cheerily,"Indeed sirrah he is the god of JUSTICE! after all." She continues smiling. And whistles a Shanty as she puts a series of reef knots and sheet bends around the pallet before securing it to the heavier rope of the crane.
Turning to Un'eth she nods "well met again. Blessings on your house." she shrugs at the comments about waste. "Every culture and people has things that make them comfortable. You want to talk of limited space try hanging your hammock in among the cargo and food stuffs of a ship at sea."
Seldan blinks at the appellation. To this point, he had been relaxed, open, and friendly with an easy smile, but now, the smile vanishes, and his demeanor becomes quietly reserved. "You remind me of my honored father," is all he says, but the smile is gone. "Please tell me when it is secure."
A brief look at Un'eth, still without smile. "I am certain they will. I am less certain that they will remember it as you would wish."
As the two hold and tie the stack of tiles, Un'eth steps aside to fetch a nearby pitcher and mugs. From one to the others, she pours water, awaiting to offer them to the others during this comparative lull. "Ssa," she admits to Seldan, "they may not... but a wariness of unusual creatures in the city may still be a boon in these times." To Mercy, along with the water, she offers, "Those on the seas respect them, and I offer the same to them."
The beached sailor cautions everyone. "The load is NOT directly below the crane. LIFT SLOW! and watch it swing. DON'T get in the way."
She adds to Un'eth "Nothing quite like trying to sleep with a string of onions wrapped around your head.
Blinks at Seldan. "You seem unhappy. Ever have I sought to uplift the innocent and smite the unJUST. Dragons especially Daeus have always inspired me...surely there is nothing wrong with that?" She finishes a little shyly.
As the load swings and raises she gratefully accept a mug of water and drinks deep. "Thank you very much."
"Of course not." Seldan's reserve remains, though, and he releases the tiles and steps clear, backing up several steps to ensure that the crane does not hit him when it lifts. "A laudable goal, indeed, and a holy inspiration," he tells Mercy. "Justice is to be pursued, but ware one does not fail to temper it with mercy, for as a sword has two edges, so are justice and mercy paired hand-in-hand."
"That is so," he tells Un'eth carefully. "Do they find themselves wary, and not angry."
Un'eth hisses mildly in amusement at Mercy's description. "That would make for strange dreamss..." The mirth fades somewhat as she turns to offer Seldan his cup of water. "If you are displeased, or concerned, share words plainly. You would not be the first, nor, do I think, the last, to do so."
The woman named Mercy arches an eyebrow at Seldan. "true JUSTICE includes mercy. but perhaps I am too invested in my names. Hjarlhundr means 'Shepherd Dog' in Aesir. She nods at the Sith-Makar agreeing with her words to Seldan. "Could be worse now that I think of it. My neighbour always smelled like he bathed in Garlic." She sips once more at her drink. taking her time now that her initial thirst has been quenched. With half an eye she watches the street below the climbing creaking pallet of slate.
"I am not displeased," Seldan answers, taking the cup of water and sipping at it carefully. "I but observe that humans see such things differently, and would not have you misled." Still the man is being chary with his words, pausing to consider them before he speaks, but he turns to Mercy instead. "Not all who follow Daeus know mercy," he murmurs. "The better ones do, and it pleases me that you are among them." A brief glance to the pallet rising into the air.
A bob of Un'eths head at Seldan's words. "Ssa. Different eyes, different homes, different thoughts. Though many are the same." Claws gesture around them to others working on the project. "Many come together. Mictlan is the same." She now gulps from her own cup, as it is more pouring into open maw and swallowing than sipping. With her snout lifted, she also follows Mercy's gaze to the elevated load.
Mercy nods. "I can certainly see the JUSTICE of your concern. It is one reason I was deemed... not suitable... to become a Palladin. My vision is complex. and my methods and solutions stray from the well trodden path." She Shrugs "I am thankful that I am allowed to serve HIM regardless." She nods to Un'eth.
