- Title: Sevenport Face, part 4
- Emitter: Faranmidahn
- Characters: Ashes, Burai, Lysos
- Place: Sevenport
- Time: Wednesday, September 09, 2020, 6:34 PM
- Summary: The group waits outside the warehouse, no one has left, and the many they spoke to has not returned. Sabina and Irshya go looking for Bannon, the others wait. Overhearing the Captain of the Sky Danger, who is quite far away in the sky, they discuss whether Burai should see if she needs help. As this is being discussed, the warehouse door creaks open. The few party members decide to sneak in, Burai as a tiger, Lysos using invisibility, and Ashlee relying on her ability to lurk and fade into the background. Inside, they find and ambush, but the ambushers don't see them. Somewhat uncoordinated due to hiding so well, the party decides to sneak past then attack from behind. Ash climbs some shelves, trying to push a box down near the ambushers. She fails, and Burai simply attacks, realizing they are undead abominations. He shreds one, and this draws the attention of Gerzon, who is hiding in strange darkness at the back of the warehouse. Darkness is no problem for Lysos, and she starts putting spells on him as the man summons black tentacles to cover the warehouse. Ash does her best to stay hidden and curse him, while Buria and Lysos are stunned by spells. Quickly shaking those off, Lysos manages to move to a position where she can hydraulic push Gerzon into the tentacles, and she succeeds. He is undone by his own spell. Ashlee meanwhile, channels Vardama's displeasure into the abominations, damaging them and drawing attention to herself. Two stop attacking Burai and climb the shelves after her, while the third flails at the half-orc, now in bird form and flying out of reach. He blasts the ones crawling after Ash, singeing them significantly, while she summons more of Vardama's wrath. While this damages them, it does not stop them, and the mourner is beaten so badly she's near unconsciousness and stunned.

Last time, in the trade outpost of Sevenport...
The party is ready to go, having discussed their options and gathered to approach the Warehouse of Gerzon to press and/or end him over the process of the Baetriov vampire. Once there, Sabina... knocks on the door. The door opened to reveal a stern faced man who eyed thr group hard, perhaps over the intrusion, a look that bothered the Tarnienite before he turned and closed the door in their faces. Irshya and Burai were much more deeply disturbed by their own realization:
The man wasn't breathing. It's true, then, that this man rubs shoulders with the restless dead.
Ashes watches the greater picture from cover, making certain no one leaves from another door, but, newly disturbed, the group stats to prepare for the worst.
In the distance a black dot is visible in the sky to the northwest, while the Sky Danger's captain can be heard almost unintelligibly giving someone the business atop the docking platform. Maybe their client finally showed up....
In the meantime, Sabina and Irshya go looking for Bannon, while the others wait.
Ash starts to move up, a little, as far as she can without losing sight of the exits. She's pretty sure the main door will be where the action is, but one never knows. Now would be a great time for a smoke. Her ear flicks, hearing the Sky Danger's captain shout in the far distance, she doesn't look that way. The warehouse remains the subject of her baleful gaze. She watches for doors opening, and shadows behind the frosting.
Burai chants in a lowered voice, toughening his skin and preparing for danger. He watches the door. But soon he ventures, "We may have to force our way in." He glances over in the direction of the dot and the seems to reconsider. He looks at the warehouse and then back. "Or perhaps we can use subterfuge..."
Meanwhile, things happen within the building. What diffuse colors were visible in the frosted glass go a single, uniform grey as the lights inside are extinguished.
And... wow, Captain Orney's really letting someone have it. How did she stuff such powerful lungs in such a tiny ribcage? Sorcery, I tell you!
Lysos taps her foot slowly... then, as the lights fade, she scowls, her foot stopping. "I don't think he's coming back," she opines.
Burai says, "Yes," Burai agrees as he also notes the lights going out. "And they may he readying themselves. But what is going on back at the ship?" He glances back in that direction, clearly distracted. "Perhaps I should go check..."
Ashlee watches the lights go out. No one seems to have left. She wonders what is underground, then the thought follows, perhaps a lot of things have been done here, enough to make an impression. She approaches the building and lays her palm against it.
Meanwhile, things happen within the building. What diffuse colors were visible in the frosted glass go a single, uniform grey as the lights inside are extinguished.
"Do we want to circle around?" Lysos suggests. "I can leave a small bit of magic here, warning us if anyone leaves through the door," she adds, her voice dropping. "I don't think he's coming back out."
"Do we want to circle around?" Lysos suggests. "I can leave a small bit of magic here, warning us if anyone leaves through the door," she adds, her voice dropping. "I'm not sure we should split up, not if he's going to have his hackles up."
The warehouse doesn't quiver under Ashley's touch, the wall is made of sterner stuff, though there is a vague... unease so close to it, a chill unfamiliar for it's lack of... propriety.
The shouting comes to an end in the distance, and the Sky Danger's loading ramp slams open once more.
Burai says, "I agree. I also think we should stay together, but keep a clear path out if we must escape. And," he glances over the others, "Do what we can to prepare."
"It's wrong inside." Ash says, as she rejoins the group. She looks over at Lysos, "It is dark inside. I'll open the door, we follow Burai in."
Lysos turns her head around slowly to regard the airship. "Wait..." she says, holding up a hesitant hand. "How quick could you get to Captain Orney's ship, Burai?" she asks, concerned. "You don't think... he somewhow got there so quickly, do you?" She looks back at the Arvec and yrch-blood in turn.
There's a short discussion on how quickly Burai could get to the Sky Danger and back. It would leave Lysos and Ash alone at the door, but it wouldn't take too long. However, before a decision is made...
Creeeeeeeeeak....!
"Door is opening." Ashlee says, although she has nothing to do with that. Getting her holy symbol out seems like a good idea, so she does, lifting the small set of scales. Her voice remains in monotone, though whispered, "turn into something Burai."
Where Burai once stood now crouches an enormous catlike monstrosity with jutting dagger-sized canines. "I--" The beast stops, somehow conveying surprise. Then it starts again. "I...can speak." It's true, he's emitting completely intelligible words, even if they are tinged with a constant undercurrent of growl. He shakes his head and goes on, "I hear it too. I'm ready."
Lysos's eyes widen, revealing only more blackness, then she takes a half step to the side to be out of the way of the door, a hand rising up in readiness to do.. well, she has no idea what. Slap something, maybe. "Should we find another way in? If it's a trap.. I'm not sure I want to walk into it.... I... aahhhh!" Yes, she's seen Burai transform before. But not something this big. And not something that talks. She stares at Buriger. "That's not natural."
From inside the warehouse door there is nothing. The Shadow draped wall of the inner hallway, only visible in a sliver by the angle of the door itself.

Ash is doing her fair share of staring too. She wants to pet him, such a large kitty. Would he enjoy scritches behind the ears like the smaller ones? Also, he's talking, so the likelihood of getting her arm torn off is... reduced. Those ears though, so cute! So fluffy!
"Sanctuary," Ashlee says, making a gesture and shaking her holy symbol. The power of Vardama flows through her hands. She strokes Burai between the ears, rubbing that little notch just behind and below them. His fur is so deep! "Three rounds, things might not attack you." Ashes pages: third scritchies is rubs or something
There are two scents that have recently been in the hallway, one human, the other human but slightly off. A lightly moldy funk.
Burai accepts the scratching impatiently. He should have guessed this might happen, he realizes. Then he pads over to the door and sniffs. "Something isn't right, but I guess we were expecting that." He does his best to peer inside.

Lysos's jaw drops.. if only for a second.. when Ashes actually touches the tiger orc. Then she mutters to herself before syaing, "Alright. I will be.. right behind you. I promise." She quickly traces a symbol in the air in front of her that looks suspiciously like an eye.. then she pokes it while saying, "Poof!" And then she vanishes.
The ashen Arvec rubs at her choker. It stops being a choker and turns into her familiar, Chippen. She rubs his head, so he won't get jealous she was petting the cat, then says, "I need all your hiding help."
There's a sort of head-bob, it's catching, and the centipede runs up through her hair to the top of her head, where he arranges a little like a large hairclip, looking forward. With his legs, he gives little signals to his mistress.
She, sneaks in after the others, doing her best to move slowly so she doesn't run up on Lysos and staying back from Burai's tailtip.

Lysos creeps inside as quietly as she can. Though her step is soft and light, much like the dancer she sometimes claims to be, it really is the magic that carries the lion.. er.. tiger's share of keeping her hidden and hopefully unnoticed. A scuff through the dust here, a catching of her breath there. And, of course, she swears everyone can hear the beating of her heart. An unseen hand rubs at her eyes, then drops as she continues forward, trying to find where the man they're looking for.. and the other that Burai sniffed out.. might be hiding. If they remain.
Inside the door, a narrow hallyway with a door to the right that leads to the smallish sort of front office type room where it's assumed one would deal with clients. well appointed, professionally chic if utliitarian. A desk, with a chair, two chair resting before it. A cigar box to one side, and a standing chest of drawers, each equipped with their own lock.
After 20' the hall meets the storage area proper, a modest expanse of 80' by 120', stacked neatly with rows of crates of varying sizes, though each part of a given stack shares a matching mark. Forming short thick walls in aiseles with perhaps 10' space betwen piles.
Apparantly oblivious in the darkness are two of teh workers who are holding themselves in something of an ambush posture near the outlet of the hall.
Meanwhile, further back there is a patch of deeper darkness that seems.... odd, smehow.
Ashlee isn't sure where Lysos got to, hopefully, not in front of her. While she's still out of sight of the ambush, she catches the tiger's tail and crawl-hands up to his ear. Putting her mouth in it, she whispers so quietly it's barely louder than the sound of her breathing. "Get behind. Box falls. Roar."
That's as clear as she can make it. The ashen Arvec does her best to creep past the ambush and get to a point on a shelf behind them. She'll reach up, or climb up, to get something big and hopefully loud to pull off the top shelf. A near miss and a surprise tiger might be enough to frighten off the workers.
Well, assuming they aren't undead. Ash hopes they aren't undead.

Everyone is sneaking around in the dark and have lost sight of each other.
Lysos did make it into the room. And nearly blew it after several steps inside when she turns her head and notices the two who were laying in ambush... as she did NOT notice them when she first stepped inside. What she did notice was the darkness in the corner.. she has to clap both of her hands over her mouth to keep her startled cry from escaping. It's when she glances franticly around that she notices the two ambushers.. and it's a good thing her hands were already in place. And damn that loud heart pounding! And where are Ashes and Burai?
Once the tiger is further in, he can smell another of the 'slightly off' humans, which are definately the two guys laying in ambush, though neither is breathing.

Burai is somewhat new to this form. But he's a quick study. And perhaps some measure of instinct also comes with the bestial shape. He slinks carefully down the hall, placing one paw at a time, halting after each step. Then he pauses. His nostrils twitch. His head swivels to look in the direction of one of the hidden workers. He realizes he is unwilling to wait any longer for 'the signal'. Perhaps Ashes and Lysos have met with some difficulty. With a roar he launches himself at one of the workers, burying him under a flurry of claws and fur and fangs.

The ashen Arvec struggles with a box, trying to up-end. It just isn't falling. She should be better at this, she's a hobgoblin! This is practically a cultural aspect. Re-arranging herself on the shelf, she's able to witness Tiger-Burai completely shred one of the waiting ambushers.
Fight is on!
She's about to re-double her efforts when she thinks to check that darker area. Within, she can see Gerzan. First, she thinks to Forbid Action, immediately recalling that Undead can not be compelled.
But her friends can. Burai on the wrong side would be very, very bad. She shakes her small holy symbol at the prowling cat, intoning, "Vardama, protect him from evil." This should do, for a little bit.
The sound of the roar results in a somewhat startled curse from the far end of the warehouse, and a somewhat rusty voice shouts, "They're here! Timing is critical, they're ruin everything... DESTROY THEM, YOU FOOLS!"

Seeming unphased by the sudden, violent end of his coworker, another laborer, different from the doorman who now cakes the walls and crates, steps in and throws two quick jabs at the big cat, but only lets the feline know he's there.
Meanwhile there is the sound of rapid footfalls approaching before two other workers come around the corner, and continue in a full out run toward what there is of the fight.
Writhing darkness. Across the crates and down gets closer to the nasty darkness. There's a tall, reedy older fellow in some kind of swashbuckler gear. The inkiness spreads almost forty feet across the floor and crates, with black rubbery tentacles lashing around from every surface that it spread to. The inkiness lies before him.

"Stars above.." Lysos mutters out, shaking her head.. then turning it away to avoid seeing too much of the results of Burai's handiwork. Instead she swallows, then sets herself to tracking down the voice of what is presumably the boss here. Unfortunately, it takes her closer to the writhing mass of eldritch horror tentacles. Upon spying a person in the vicinity, she turns.. focusses on Burai and a revealed Ashes, and then whispiers to them from the distance. "I think he's back here by the darkness... with a whole bunch of nasty tentacles.."
There's some light coming through the frosted windows, but with all the crates and everything in the way, it's still kind of hard to make out the far end of the building.

"Gerzon!" Burai bellows. He can't exactly see the supposed merchant. But the party half expected to find him here in the warehouse and the half-Oruch finds it easy to believe that he would be somewhere within the darkness. Burai backs away from the other worker. "We have been looking for you, Gerrzon! Don't try to hide!" He chants in (growl-accented) Druidic and pulls one paw along the ground in front of him before clenching the clawed digits and leaving tiny furrows in the ground. Green light bursts within a patch of darkness, coating the floor and tentacles within a small space in a similarly green glow and casting enough light to reveal their quarry.

Oh! There's a message cantrip going! Ash knows how that works. She has it, she never uses it. Talking to people isn't on her list of things to do. Still, a little coordination might be good right now, as the faerie fire lights up a whole mass of tentacles and Gerzon, her options are somewhat limited.
Not falling in, is always a good one.
She quickly whispers to Lysos, "Little curses, or a big curse first? Weaken him, or easier to hit?"
Big. Easier to hit. Is the response. Ok.
Ashlee simply points, a long single finger with bone markings on it, making herself a small figure of doom and sending it Gerzon's way. She also hides, following Chippen's tap-taps on her head, and vanishes.

She doesn't know what he's doing... but whatever it is, she is sure she doesn't want him doing it. So she takes a deep breath, then circles around one of the box aisles to get around part of the illuminated tentacles so she might line up the fellow. "Here we go.." she tells herself, then lifts a hand and thrusts it down as she stomps upon the floor. "Krak!" The energy she gathers releases, then, under the flamboyantly dressed warehouse boss, tipping him over. Which, of course, reveals the tsuran now for all to see.

Burai is keeping most of his attention on Gerzon. Even as others move to surround him, he lowers his head and leans to one side to keep the reedy man in sight. His inattention costs him as he's struck repeatedly. He shakes his head, and then again, blinking as if concussed.
Black Tentacles: They can't be hurt, they try to grab and crush any creature that enters the area.
Ashlee creeps to the edge of the shelves, she peers over and sees that Gerzon has fallen. Not into the tentacles, but close, and he hasn't gotten that door open. She thinks quickly. He likely needs a little skill to get that door open, but Lysos wanted him easier to hit, so she'll go for that.
The ashen Arvec glares at the long, creepy man, and wishes he'd get a few pokes in sensitive places. Just her hands and face, still in the shadows, peer down at him as her eyes bore. Like a dead child watching a midwinter festival after bed, she unleashes ire.
