Hard on the Clothing
The Prestigious Moon
Cold enough to prevent rain yet not bring snow is perhaps something of a blessing. Not that such is typically a concern for some: the libraries are ever warm and dry, if just as it is best for the knowledge stored within. The Prestigious Moon is not a library, however. This is obvious. Or is it?
Afterall, why else would a Sage Mourner whose well-established preferences are one or more layers of one-size-fits-all robes in no more than three shades of gray enter the establishment?
There is another, already in the shop, although it is a thing much more mundane than his usual pursuits. Seldan has a short a pair of trousers bundled together beneath one arm, and appears to be waiting for - something. He glances briefly over when the door jingles open, and does a double-take on seeing Verna.
Verna takes a brief glance about the store, doffing her hood in the process, though halts abruptly when she notes Seldan. The proprietress she would expect, perhaps an assistant; she is certain the Silverguard is not the former and would not expect him as the latter. "Good eve, Seldan. I admit that I did not expect to encounter you here. I trust all is well, as much as all can be at present?"
"Yes, Mourner." Seldan even wears a small smile. "The defense of Alexandria keeps clothiers employed, even were there no other need, for truly are such activities hard on the clothing. Mistress Sandy does an excellent job. Tell me, how go your studies?
"Indeed," she agrees, as his logic and statement are sound. Verna's lips purse at the inquiry. "Not as well as I would prefer. That you believed some matters to be myths seems an opinion shared by most others, and they saw fit not to record much of myths. I suppose that it is understandable, but that makes it no less frustrating."
"I have found the same, in mine," Seldan agrees, setting aside the bundle of clothing under his arm on the counter and using his newly-freed hands to push an unruly lock of hair from his face. "Few references to anything of this sort, and none to such things as the Chorus. The heart of the world references also prove elusive."
Verna's head tilts in curiosity. "Heart of the world? That is a similarly... poetic and vague term. Still... I expect it is merely a matter of perserverence. I hold not intention to cease."
Seldan immediately nods his agreeement with that assessment of matters, he arm resting on the bundle of clothing. "Such a thought was also mine. It needs but patience and perseverance, and something will emerge that will be of use. Vague terms are not uncommon in prophecy. I believe it to be a location upon Ea."
Verna nods in return, though exhales a long breath. "Still, I trust that you still make time for personal matters? As I was made aware of late, one should not ignore the world and what one holds most dear, in the effort to protect such." She pauses after that, possibly for her own musing as much as emphasis. "Thus, I visit the clothier, myself."
Seldan's eyes lower at this, the smile fading. "Even so, although personal life offers little respite. Still is it important that time be made for it. One cannot do nothing but research. Tell me, what besides studies do you pursue?"
"At the moment," Verna offers in response, "a dress suitable for semi-formal events; dining, conversation, and the like. This shop was highly recommended."
"A fine choice," Seldan agrees. "Mistress Sandy understands the need, and her clothing is of good quality. But, she does not appear to be about, and I may not wait here much longer. Perhaps she will be able to greet on the morrow, but if I am not to complete my errand today, I should be on my way."
Verna takes a brief glance about before returning focus to Seldan. "Indeed, I may have arrived at an inopportune time. I do not wish to delay your errand, yet it is good to encounter you again. Moreso that there is no imminent threat of bodily harm in said encounter." After a pause, she adds, "I hope that you do find some respite amidst this, Seldan. We are, afterall, yet mortal."
