- Summary: Creeping into Lord Hiei's ursurped Castle by a secret back entrance, the adventurers have come upon a pile of rotting boddies, bunched up against a grate. Carefully opening the secret door beside this rotting mass, attracts the attention of some horrid creatures, human-centipede skeletons with borrowed faces. They attack, battle ensues, with the trio having difficulty hitting their foes, and even getting into a good position. All three are bitten, and the needle-like teeth contain venom. Ash's web effectively slows them, trapping one so effectively it destroys itself and vomit-births several more tiny versions of itself that disappear into the pile. Donna manages to punch one of them to pieces, and crack the carapace of the other, while Aimarra and Ashes struggle to land blows, and slowly get more clumsy as the poison builds in them.
Deep in the stream that exits the castle, the trio of adventures have encountered a mass of rotting bodies. Strange creatures, wearing the faces of the dead, with too many ribs to be human, emerge from the pile. The ashen Arvec Nar stands at the now open secret door, still hidden from view. The swinging portal has drawn their attention.

The mass of rotting bodies disgorges a horrible sight. Human centipede skeletons with the rotting faces of their original owners. Ashlee is fascinated, Chippen is offended on a personal level.
The Mourner contemplates her options, "Feiu of the Tears, a lot of webs, therrrr..." She has a first spot selected, then changes the centre of the radius, "...therre."
A spot further up the room, that places her just on the edge. Thick strands fill the room and the water channel, and Ashlee is dangerously close to getting stuck.
The human centipede things don't seem to have as much trouble.

The skittering creatures deftly weave their way in between the sticky strands of arcane webbing- except one with a severe face, decaying skin pulled taut over its skull by a severe bun in shades of grey. The young raven haired maiden pulls itself free of the pile of corpses, trailing vescera as its unnervingly flexible rib-legs- of which it has far too many to have come from a single human ribcage- pulls it effortlessly up the slick side of the sewer pit and onto the platform adjacent to ashes. It rears up, the ghastly sight of its repurposed innards almost matching the smell.
It's mandibles open wide left to right, while the human remnants of the maiden's jaw- now filled with dripping, needle sharp teeth- opens far wider than is natural, surely dislocating as it does so and it lunges towards the Mourner, biting into her and drawing blood.

"Ouch!" Ashlee yelps. Everything is wrong about the corpse thing facing her, she knows this on a professional level. Her options quickly rush through her mind. She settles for dropping her parasol shield down and withdrawing to the steps, Khopesh ready. Best not to stand in the bottleneck or block line of sight.
In theory, she calls out to the others, "There's three of them." Oh, right, it's dark. They probably have no idea what's going on. "Three skeleton centipedes. You might need some light."
Slower off the mark than its two female-headed counterparts, the third centipede is still extracting itself from the pile of corpses when the webs hit and he- with a bald pate save for the sides and back of his head, and a topknot- ends up becoming entangled in the viscous strands as he pulls himself free.

"Knew we shouldn't have ignored it. Haven't got magical lights!" As smooth and swift as a gazelle, Aimarra bounds up the stairs to cover Ashes, bow in hand, and snaps off a quick shot that is just a little too quick - her hand slips on the string, and the arrow sailing off into the darkness with a loud *twang*. "Can I leave these in this uncle's bed?"

An attempt to leap onto the platform is foiled by a moment's slip in the muck, and it's with a grumble that Donna edges past Ash, finding herself staring at the bars. "This'll do for now I guess... Fall back if you're gettin' hurt, I'll cover!" At least there is an undead face upon which to punch, on the other side of the bars.

The maiden-headed Centipede slithers free of the webbing after her retrating prey- that is, until Aimarra interposes herself. It seems this monstrosity is not particularly fussy, though, as it scuttles towards the new target that presents itself, large mandibles latching onto her leg and pulsing with a viscious liquid that surges into her bloodstream with the bite. Immediately, the archer will feel her muscles begin to tighten and spasm.

Meanwhile, the one with the severe bun thrashes and writhes against the webbing- which only serves to entangle it further and further, even as it's pulsing entrails stain the webbing red and purple and ichor green with ghoulish emissions.

"I don't think these are undead. They have no minds, but no human organs and their ribs are too flexibile and too many to have come from the corpses. I think they were eating them." Ashlee says, rubbing at the holy symbol on the front of her armour.
A chill, calming sensation radiates from around her. The peace of the grave, which numbs wounds, and seems to heal them.
"I have a Magic Circle against Evil, I was hoping to save it. I think our battle arrangement isn't ideal."

The gent turns towards Donna- he looks almost mournful, he has dark brown eyes that haven't yet become milky with decomposition. It stares at her for a few long moments, and then lunges towards the bars- his face splits open, the skin of his cheeks tearing open to reveal the selfsame mandibles that the maiden posesses. The sharp apendages clatter against the bars, scissoring against the metal, venom dripping from their tips.

Aimarra screams as her muscles start to spasm and twitch, and her bow clatters to the ground. With an effort, she wrenches the sword at her hip from its scabbard in a complaint of leather on metal. Her swing is wild, though, as her muscles twitch at the wrong moment, the weapon slamming into the doorframe instead.

There is at least one enemy the brawler can reach, and she sets to her work with a will. Two lightning-fast punches slip between the bars, the third clanging away harmlessly. Donna's scowl deepens as she notes the lack of real damage done by her strikes... and deeper still as Aimarra cries out in pain. "Oi up there! Need to swap?"
Yes, she is in fact *volunteering* to make it harder on herself.

The raven-haired centipede monstrosity lunges for Aimarra again, but she is too quick this time- wary after being bitten once, the Centipede is unable to penetrate the archer's deft defence- mandibles scissoring agressively at the air, but failing to find purchase.

The matronly monster continues to writhes and thrash, becoming ever more hopelessly wound up in the webbing which squeeze at her exposed organs. She bites at the webbing, pulls at it with rib-claws and squirms and writhes, oozing more foul substances, but fails to get free.
"Donna, let's swap. Take the stairs, I'll take the coner. Aimarra, drop down to the side. Let them come to us. The web should slow them a bit." Ashlee suggests, fulfilling her part of the plan by clearing the stairs into the corner. It's straight into the foul water, but she'll live. Her boots, might not. It's not a great plan but it might allow them to focus without being exposed at the same time.
She raises her khopesh, ready to drop it on anything foul that gets within range.

The bebunned beast continues mindlessly chomping at the metal bars even as it's stolen face is pummeled, unable to grasp the error in its ways as it gnashes and chomps and grinds against the barrier barring it from reaching its much desired snack.
<OOC> Aimarra nodnod. Mmm, if I do that, that's a move action that provokes, so it's hit or pick up the bow. Better do that. A moment's hesitation from Aimarra at the shouts of her comrades, even as the bite melts away into nothingness and she sighs in some relief that she'll feel more fully later. "Swap me!" she calls, dropping the sword over the side, then bending to swiftly grab her bow and jump after it, down the slick platform to its bottom.

With the order of battle shifting, Donna nods in response to the hurried plans being shouted out. Once again sliding around the wall to gain the stairs, the brawler claps her hands together, muttering under her breath as arcane writing flares alight along her exposed arms. As she spreads out her hands, four pinpoints of pale-blue light spray outward, arrowing in to impact against the horrific maiden's rotted face. "C'mon an' get me, you *incredibly* disgusting harridan!"

As the Centipede Maiden advances, Ashes takes a swing. Despite her planning, it misses.
The scuttling form gives chase to fleeing prey once more, and once more finds living flesh it did not expect- and once more shows a lack of preference as her gnashing mandibles and alien jaw lunges out for Donna- finding only fists of steel and deft defense, she's not able to get close enough to her to do any harm.
Meanwhile, the thrashing Matron has gotten herself so bound up in the webbing, that she looks as though she is going to bust a gut- literally- as she thrashes. Her maw opens wide, and she begins to heave, once, then twice, then vomits forth a swarm of tiny centipedes which hit the foetid liquid below and scurry towards every nook and cranny they can find- including noses, eye sockets, ears, and open wounds of the pile of corpses nearby. So profuse is this disgusting display that the matron seems to deflate and wither, until eventually she looks like a husk hanging limp in the webbing.

Ash adjusts her footing, the fetid water isn't helping. At least strategically they're all better positioned, surrounding the platform, able to strike as the centipedes approach.
She swallows a little bit of bile after watching the... strange birthing process the matron went through. This explains a bit of their life-cycle.
Oh right! Attack! She swings her khopesh at the advancing maiden, but does little more than provide a distraction. She misses wildly.

It takes the man-faced centipede several moments to stop gnashing at the bars once Donna moves away from it, and it resumes its wriggling and writhing trying to break free of the sticky webbing so that it can follow suit and give chase.

Now shooting up, Aimarra tries again - and fares no better, arrow this time sailing harmlessly into the air. "Agh. I think that muck got on my bowstring," she calls to the others.

And now that the centipede is out in the open, Donna bounces twice on her toes, then launches into a wild flurry of punches... nearly all of which miss, as the horror ducks, dips, dives, and dodges.
"Will you--" *whiff* "Stop--" *whiff*
"Fucking--" *whiff*
"MOVING!" The last punch, however, lands solidly between the contipede's stolen eyes. Dignity, reestablished.

That last mighty strike between the eyes causes her stolen skin to slip against whatever hard carapace lays beneath, twisting her face grotesquely. She rears up once more, and the skin slides and falls off revealing the horror that lays beneath. Dozens of dark eyes dot it's insectoid face, and in addition to the mandibles, the needle like teeth lining its upper and lower jaws- which are still somewhat human shaped, if larger, it seems to have yet another maw, a circular one full of even more teeth which twist and churn. It has even more appendages littering its face, like a multitude of tiny insectoid legs which writhe and grasp, tipped with tiny hooks, many of which still trail torn ribbons of the liberated skin.
It screeches in rage at the loss of its stolen face and launches itself for Donna, mandibles tearing a gash in her shoulder.

"Aren't harridans older? Like hags? Or... no. Harpies are something else." Ashes says pedantically, sloshing quietly in the dim light. She adds in an unhurried monotone, almost calming in its own way. "It's ok Aimarra. Step by step. They are mindless, we just have to be smarter."
She shuffles closer to the bars, and takes a swipe at the maiden centipede. The proof of her words is in the results, which are minimal, a glancing strike at best.

Though still bound up in the webs, the man-headed centipede monster has managed to turn itself around- its forelimbs scrape and claw at the brickwork that lines the manmade sewer channel, trying to free itself from the webbings grasp- but still it fails.

Yet another arrow goes sailing into the air, and Aimarra, muscles still twitching a little from the effects of the poison, swears and shakes her head. "I can't get an angle on it from here!"

"You ain't the only one!" Donna gripes, as the centipede evades all of her strikes. "Need to pin this motherfucker to the ground... Yeah I see you asshole, you ain't scarin' me!"

As a new blade strikes its deceptively tough entrails, the creature turns towards its new assailaint- seeing that same warm blood that it spied on first awakening, it lunges for Ashes- but mandibles clatter hamrlessly against reinforced parasol, drooling sticky venom against it.

Ashes has been here before. It's one of the reasons she carries weapons again. Sometimes the match is so even it simply drags on... and on...
In a calm monotone she says, "Keep hitting. We have the advantage. This is manageabe." To think, she's being encouraging, giving instructions. It's almost like something from her military days, her drill sergent reminding her to take charge, when necessary.
She swings, her silvery khopesh cutting the darkness, but not their foe. "Keep trying."

While Ashes is distracted fighting the Maiden on the platform, the other creature beyond the bars pauses its flailing as warm flesh draws nearer to it. It lunges for Ashes, squeezing its head through the bars with a sickening cracking sound, and its mandibles puncture her shoulder and upper arm, drawing copious blood and injecting their wicked venom, causing the skull-faced Arvek's muscles to begin to seize and spasm.

Scowling blackly, Aimarra pulls another arrow and backs up a step, firing again. This time, _this time_, it finds purchase, punching through exoskeleton and into flesh, although doing less damage than it looks like it should. "Got you," she snarls. "Time for you to eat a sword, though."

This time, whether it be renewed effort upon hearing her companions' distress, frustration ebbing enough for focus to return, or chance whim of the gods, Donna's armored fists land much more tellingly, if only as effectively as Aimarra's arrows. Still, chitin is cracking, true eyes punctured... it's nearly dead.

Beset by assailants on all sides, with its foul-smelling ichors gushing from numerous wounds the Bare-faced centipede lashes back and forth, before whipping around and lunging for Aimarra this time, after the arrow punctures something painful. Its mandibles tear into the archers flesh once more, though the venom sprays across her skin and fails to find its way into the fresh wound.

Ashlee makes a quiet cry of pain. She's good at pretending she's dead, or some sort of friendly undead, but the reality is she's flesh and blood like everyone else. Even if it's monster flesh. She takes the bite from the male centipede thing from beyond the bars with as much dignity as she can. A gasp, then a monotone statement, "The distraction is working."
Silently, she hopes this plan will play out. She's willing to take a hit, as long as it's a wise tactical decision. Giving the centipede a reason to stay put is one, although if it ran around and past the maiden to attack directly it wouldn't alter the odds much.
Perhaps... that's the plan. Muscles spasming, grip unsure, she swings for the one on the platform. This misses. She then steps back into the corner, out of range of the Centipede Gent behind the bars.

Ashlee ducks into her corner, to get away from the other centipede. It's ill timed, as 'he' breaks free from the webs and scuttles around. Swinging her khopesh, she attemps to head him off.
And fails. She has no words of encouragement this time.
"No you don't!" Donna snarls as the monster scuttles away, spiked fist looping overhead to crunch *hard* against its segmented body.
The gent gnashes at the bars once more, but upon realizing it can't reach Ashes anymore, it goes back to scrabbling up the side of the sewer pit. This time, it finally manges to wriggle free of the webbing, sloughing off a layer of ichor as it scrambles up the side and across the floor, slithering past its battered companion and back down the slope on the other side. It lashes out at Ashes, but its snapping mandables fall short.

A swing of the bow at the thing does no good, but another arrow sinks into the thing courtesy of Aimarra, but this time fails to find purchase into flesh. "Die, you freakish son of a bitch," she snarls, shoulder bleeding from another bite. That'll hurt later.

Finally, the monster falls under Donna's onslaught, fists crunching its horrific face in until the twitching stops.
Breathing heavily, Donna peers over the edge of the ledge at the monster assaulting her friend below. Next target: locked.

"It's working as intended." Ashes says, still in montone. Donna's defeat of the maiden is encouraging. This fight can be handled. There's... just the problem of specifics.
Like the male-faced centipede relentlessly attacking her. She swings at the foe, her silver khopesh slicing once more through the darkness and failing to connect substantially with her foe.
"I need some help." Ashlee states, redundantly.

The thrashing mandibles of the man-headed monster continue to press into Ash, pushing her back into the corner as it continues its relentless assault on her. They fins puchase again, biting deep into her flesh and once more injecting her with it's foul venom- the cramping, seizing tremors growing more intense, it's becomming more difficult even for the Arvek to breathe as the doses of poison build up and pump through her body.

Aimarra leaps up onto the platform, swinging her sword, which goes wild.
