Cor'ethil's silver eyes are as wide as dinner plates as he looks up at the large elemental. "No!" he says, because Dirk is near the elemental, and he's not about to let it hurt his friend and fellow devoted of Gilead.

A prayer flies from his lips. "O Blessed Gilead, give me the wings by which I can defend my allies!" It's answered in the form of two white wings and softly glowing eyes, and Corey bats the wings in a practiced and powerful burst as he rushes forward with still-glowing rapier in hand.

"Cen, stay with me a moment longer, we're going to need your help for a moment," he urges to the divine spirit he has called to his blade as he readies his defense.

The elemental rises from the ground and smashes its fists into the first thing that it lays it's eyes upon - namely Cor'ethil. One of the fists manages to miss Corey entirely, but the other lands a solid blow and knocks the paladin around a bit. A far from pleasant experience to be sure.

Dirk's eyes get wide as the earth elemental rears up out of the ground. And they get wider still when the three sisters decided to get completely and totally stoned. "Beards o' me fathers!" His gaze darts around, quickly taking in the battlefield conditions. "You get the big'un, Corey!" he hollers, before he turns his attention to the three smaller stoners. He trots up a few feet, skidding to a halt and going to one knee. He lines up a single, perfect shot. "Smile, you son of a--" CHK-BOOM! A single blessed bullet strikes the stoner naga deadhead square in the torso, cracking its facade and sending a puff of stone dust flying into the murky Felwood air. "Hah! Holy magic still hurts ye!" he growls, grinning as he racks a fresh round into his weapon's chamber.

Carver smooth dismount is a show of acrobatics, backwards tuck as Deathless charges forward, getting in between Dirk and the sisters-mean; wicked they surely be. She sights up the injured lass and makes certain that injury is fatal... even if they do not follow the expected rules of engagement with life and death.

"Long as we manage their numbers, 's easier!"

Oh... oh dear. This looks like the elemental they've been tracking, but... why would an elemental who consented to ward the Temple of Eluna... attack a Paladin?

...In fact that is an excellent question, and to further the cause of answering it... Magpie digs about in a pocket, producing four tiny river pebbles, and a rounded onyx gem... All of which she pops into her mouth and begins to gargle.

Gargle? No... those are vocal warm-up exercises... but somehow transmuting from Common to a much... earthier language. One that the elementals of Earth know deep in their soul. Finally, when the linguistic transformation is complete, the gnome spits out the rocks, all four gone grey and ashen, clears her throat, and tries to parley with the great elemental.

<< Oi! You there! If you're the guy who ran from Eluna's Temple back the other day, we need to know! We're not here to hurt you, we just want to take you back! And also why are you helping these... women? Naga? Undead sirens? Creatures! Why are you helping these creatures! >>

The elemental sisters, for the sisters have been turned to living stone, slither forward, one going to thrash and bash Carver. The archer takes some heavy damage from the blows of the naga-elemental and while Dirk manages to evade some of the blows leveled at him, he still takes a bit of damage as well.

Cor'ethil is a steadfast fighter. Even bloodied, he's smiling like there's not a problem, cheerful even when there's blood on his armor from where the elemental had hit him. "Stay thy thirst," he tells his blade, a magic incantation to tell it to not seek out the lethal points of the elemental... For whatever definition of lethality is to them.

He gives the elemental three good jabs of the rapier in turn, calling out to Carver, "Can you come get it now? I can heal myself if I get too badly hurt, but I don't want it to come to that in case I need to help the rest of you!"

The elemental grins toothily at Magpie. "LIKE LITTLE ONE. KEEP LITTLE ONE SAFE. EVERYTHING IS CORRUPT. MUST CLEANSE EVERYTHING." The elemental's eyes turn on Cor'ethil and before Magpie can tell the elemental that Corey is not corrupt, the elemental rears back and brings both fists down on the paladin. Leaving him bloodied and heavily wounded.

Dirk staggers to the side as the stoned naga cracks him across the chops. "GUHHKKH!" A gob of blood flies from his split lip, leaving a trickle staining his majestic white beard. But all that does is make the burly old ranger hopping mad. "OOOH, YOU ROCK-FER-BRAINS BITCH! STAND STILL A MOMENT! I GOT WORK TAE DO!" The naga, naturally, is having none of that, and attempts to make its opinion known. But Dirk is shockingly nimble on those stumpy dwarven feet of his. He ducks and weaves, his cloak flaring dramatically behind him as he wheels around and leaps over a swing from the stoner naga. He fires his thunderbelcher one-handed in the midst of an artful horizontal sommersault, blasting three glowing craters in the Elunite elemental. He lands in a three-point crouch, snapping his furious glare at the naga. "Yer next, ye overgrown pebble"! he snarls.

While the elemental beats Cor'ethil bloody, the paladin has opportunity to analyze its wounds. "It's wounded enough, Carver! Use it!" Corey calls over to the horse-friend ranger.

Deathless smashes through, buying Carver just enough time to step through. Just ahead of the reaching claws. As she does, she draws the strange crystal from its protected pouch and throws. It's an absolutely terrible throw. Tarien having a giggle, or just the pressure of the moment overwhelming. Maybe something, or someone, redirects fate. A wind catches it. What was going to be short?

Is just enough for the enchanted hold to tap the very edge of a rocky 'nose'.

Blink out of sight.

Carver turns quickly to try to aid Deathless, only to find her standing there covered in evil sister mud. Breath. "... Lucky."

"WAIT NO BUT PALADINS BY DEFINITION AREN'T CORRUPTE--"

bwip

"...Oh," Magpie says, hands dropping down as the elemental disappears into the containment crystal, and the naga turn to mud. "...Well okay. That's handy... Hey Corey, are all your bits still on the right side of your skin? Or d'you need a minute? Because uh... I think we're done here?"

Cor'ethil is panting and bleeding from half his face by the time Carver's crystal catches the elemental. The paladin murmurs first, "Praise the gods," because he has survived, and maybe that's some of Ceinara's fortune in addition to Gilead's favor.

He laughs a little at Magpie's question. "Just... give me a moment. To erm. Staunch the wounds." He closes an eye that's running over with blood, and he murmurs a prayer of healing. To be expected, his prayer is answered by the glow of warm light running across him. It obviously doesn't stop his bleeding.

"Karasu's going to be upset." Corey pouts. "But I'll be fine. Promise!"

Dirk is ready to take out the naga that rung his bell. He's psyched himself up. He's ready. With a bellow of fury, he thrusts his thunderbelcher forward to ram it into the stone torso. At that exact moment, Carver throws that crystal and captures the Elunite elemental. So it is, when the barrel of Dirk's weapon lands, it keeps going with a nasty SPLUTCH! Blink. Blink blink. The dumbfounded old dwarf founds himself up to his forearms in oozy mud. He steps back, jerking his weapon free and earning a splatter of mud all up and down his front. "GWAAAGH!" He shakes the gritty black glop from his hands, fuming with towering dwarven rage. "Ooooh piss up my arse, I just washed me beard yesterday!"

Muttering furiously and his beard bristling, he turns and lumbers over to where Corey stands. "You all right, laddie?" He watches to make sure that Corey's healing will be enough to get him out of danger. Once that's done, he squints down at the crystal now lying placidly on the ground. "Hunh. Dinnae seem so scary now, does it? Well... let's get this back tae Alex, eh? Then I'm all fer gettin' a few rounds at the TaRaCe." He gives his muddy, grimy clothing a hairy eyeball. "Thankfully, they've got baths there. Think Missus Irshya was plannin' ahead when she put those in. Damn it."

Later, when you return the elemental to the Seeress Aki, she seems quite pleased and grateful. "You've all done very well. Let me tend your wounds here before you run along." Her brief prayer soothes your wounds and repairs your flesh - those of you wounded in the battle - and in the end she explains that the elemental had been seeking corruption to cleanse, and had naturally gone to the Felwood to repair it since it is the single largest concentration of corruption nearby. That being said, it couldn't tell friend from foe in such concentrated a corrupted place.

Yet it's magic had done some good. The sisters are freed of their curse, and that area of the Felwood will remain purer than the others. So that's something. She fully intends to return the elemental to its sleeping place beneath the temple where it can help bind the warding in place.

You all deserve your rest at the TarRaCe.
