Wearing bran new sandals, a war-kilt and a mournful look, the giant of a man that is Kaj makes his way into the temple. He progresses inward, looking lost and forlorn, but also obviously searching for something or someone. Eventually, he grabs a torch from one of the wall sconces (only someone of his height would assume it is grabable-portable!) presumably planning on using it to peer in the darker corners of the vast temple.

Given the nature of the temple, petitioners are few and the Mourners, themselves go about their duties quietly. The provides a calm solemnity to the area. As another enters, the Mourner overseeing the foyer turns her attention to the entrant. "If you are in need of ass-" Verna's words pause as the sconce is emptied, causing blinnking beneath her hood. "Pardon, but if you would please return the torch to the wall, there is sufficient illumination here and elsewhere."

Kaj turns and looks down at Verna, holding the torch a little higher, its warm light glinting off his moonstone eye.

"Not enough light to find that most faithful of servants: Paladin Kira?" he says, but slowly returns the torch as he doesn't know what the whole death-protocol is for the little people (i.e. all non-giantborns).

Verna ahs softly and her hood dips. She takes several steps towards, and gestures with one gloved hand to, one of several modest archways off of the main foyer. "If you are a Bereaved seeking to pay respects and rememberance, this alcove is currently for that purpose. Upon the back wall of the alcove within hangs a placard with the decedent's name. Below this are shelves and niches careved into the stone. Several candles burn in some niches, while offerings rest upon some of the shelves or the floor below: a metal ring; a loaf of bread; a cloak.

Kaj nods, holding out his hand, for some reason expecting Verna to lead him there?

"Has she already been buried with her ancestors?" he asks, sounding even more forlorn.

Verna looks back to see the Giantborn waiting and steps back to him. The extended hand is taken so that she can escort him across the foyer to the alcove. "My apologies," she notes as she releases the hand. "While I believe her remains are now interred, I was not personally responsible for her tending. I can inquire and confirm the decedent's status, if you wish."

The giantborn makes a watermelon-sized fist around Vernas hand, allowing himself to be led.

"It would be good to know where flowers should be lain upon her resting place." A pause.

"Next of kin? Her belongings? I would beg a memento from them..."

"Of course," Verna's hood dips. "I understand. At present, gifts, honors, and payers may be offered here. Any material goods left here will be supervised until such time as they must be removed, returned, or interred with the decedent, as specified or best determined." She pauses to remove a sheaf of documents and peruse them.

"There is no specific record of next of kin. None were filed prior and none have claimed such with documentation in proof. Any and all wealth and holdings were bequeathed, by the decedent, to the decedent's temple as donations."

Kaj bows sadly. "Thank you. Serriels' temple," he says more than asks, recalling the introductions at sea.

Verna considers. "From what I observed of a prior group of bereaved, it was my inference that the decendent was a servant of Althea. I could be mistaken, however; I did not know her personally." She then returns the bow with a deep nod of hood. "Any assistance I may provide is done with gladness. Do you require any other assistance? If not, I would respect your purpose here this day."
