  • Title: A Gnoment in Time, Part 2
  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Dirk, Lyme, Paenitia, Ravenstongue, Skielstregar, Vaera, Zyla
  • Place: Alexandros Wilderness, Inside Mage's Magic Mansion.
  • Time: Thursday, September 22, 2022, 10:08 PM
  • Summary: Secure in Farland's Mage's Magic Mansion, the adventures attempt to sleep. They are interrupted. Pothy has discovered the banquette and convinced the other familliar and mount to assist him in eating it all. Ramirez can put food away, but Pothy tries, as does Lulu. Their absence draws the adventurers to find all the avians stuffed and on the verge of being sick. They are chastized, sent to their rooms, and everyone attempts to sleep despite Farland's heavy snoring. The racuous noise is overwhelmed by thumping noises, which upon investigation seem to be from some entity wrecking various rooms in the mansion. The banging is in one wing, then the other. Paenitia finds the source when she returns to her room for some other items, is choked, and then thrown across the room when she manages to alert the others. Cor'lana attempts to glitterdust the enemy, but all they see is a swirling of air.

Good news, everyhon! You're in a magical mansion. It's nice and comfortable. And magic. On the edge of a cursed forest. But magical.

At least it's warm, inviting, and you have your own rooms.

Nothing can go wrong here. Right?

"No! Ramirez, tuck the wings in. In." Paenitia attempts to coerce her trusty steed into her room. Neither bunk nor barn will keep her from sleeping tonight.

'Ruaaah!' Ramirez wishes to explore this strange frontier. Yes. He takes a lot of encouraging.

This will take them some time.

Dirk lumbers gingerly into the mansion, reaching up to doff his tricorne as he enters. "Well... isn't -this- fancy?" he says. "Wonder how much summat like this puts a body back? Sure would be handy fer those long huntin' trips, I'll warrant!"

Skielstregar ambles in, his eyes wide. "... oh.... wow. That'sss what the insssidesss of thisss place look li-"

He inhales deeply. Perks up."Is that candied bacon?!" he gasps, jogging towards the kitchens. A snack before turning in is needed.

"SNACKS!" Pothy cries out from Cor'lana's shoulder as she enters. He soars in after Skielstregar, going for the candied bacon and any other tasty morsels they might have.

"Oh, well... I /was/ going to say that you and I could cuddle in bed and I can feed you your favorite dried berries, Pothy, but I guess you can run off, too, that's fine!" Cor'lana calls after Pothy, and she instead turns to Ramirez. "Ramirez, I can give /you/ my dried berries if you'll go into Madame Paenitia's room like she asks."

A plate of snacks appears hovering in midair beside Pothy.

Oh no. Pothy plus this magic is an impending disaster. The snacks, at least, look appropriately Corvid-diet. Eggs.

Zyla doesn't really like being in the magical mansion but then its mostly just due to personal reasons. She just looks to the others and just smiles a bit as she does try to relax at least.

The proud peacock-andalusian is not above being berry bribed. His head pops up, then his neck curls around as he follows Cor'lana's lead.

"Ole! You have the right plan my friend, lead the men by their stomach. Much thanks." Paenitia laughs, lost in the fetlocks, pushing her half-horse into the room.

Dirk perks as well at the mention of candied bacon. "Ooh!" Lulu blink-blinks, and wings her way off Dirk's shoulder and over to the plate that appeared by Pothy. "Hoo! Hoo-oo!" She hop-hop-hops around the edge of the plate, head-tilting this way and that. She goes to peck-peck at one of the snacks. "Lulu! Those're Pothy's snacks! Be polite!" Dirk grumbles at her. Lulu fluffs up her feathers, head-twisting around to peer at her master. With a ruffle of wings, she looks back to Pothy. "Hoo?" Paenitia isn't wrong, though. The way to a man's heart -is- his stomach, and Dirk has plenty of stomach to go around! "So these magicked places feed us as well as keep the rain off?" he wonders as he looks around for more provisions.

Food is abundant, honestly. There's enough appearing on a banquet table up ahead from the foyer you're in to eat. Another hallway leads to stables made from magic, just lik everything else here, and then there is of course the rooms.

Farland sighs. "...your familiar is going to eat this entire place if you're not careful," he tells Ravenstonuge. Then he heads for a room. Sleep is needd.

Skielstregar returns with a handful of candied bacon, him rumbling happily and chuckling warmly at Rameriez's antics. "Yesss, keep an eye on Pothysss. Vaera, we will need to find a place here that can sssupport usss both," he muses, lumbering steps going off to find a room that could hold two makari.

Zyla does eat from some of the food but she is circumspect with the eating, not taking a lot, just a little here and there

Vaera takes her time to learn the layout, only stopping to have something to eat. When Skielstregar returned, she nods, and follows suit. "I am sure it will be fine. This place has been made with magic after all, so even if anything breaks, it will be of little concern."

Once Ramirez's feathered butt is into the room, Cor'lana dusts her hands off. "Alright," she says. "Let me go handle the real problem."

And so the feytouched sorceress approaches the biggest threat to their current survival: the raven in the kitchens who is beginning to gorge himself on eggs. She tosses open the doors, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Pothy," she says sharply.

Pothy... looks up at Cor'lana from a plate of eggs. An egg tumbles out of his mouth. "Snack?" he asks. It's an offer to share.

"You have had enough, I think, and I don't need to eat. Come on," Cor'lana says as she takes a few steps forward.

Blue eyes dart around the kitchen. Pothy's pale plumage puffs up in perilous... defense. "SNACKS," he screams. His wings splay out to cover the plate. He will go down with this ship--

And Cor'lana just scoops him up, picking him up from under his wings. She leans down and kisses him on his fuzzy little head, which shuts up the protestations he was about to make. "Good boy," she tells him, and they go to their bedroom with no further interruptions.

"Ha, he eat the egg? Pothy is the cannibal!" Paenitia laughs, slipping into the stables with Ramirez. A long grooming session is in order, and she has a plethora of brushes. It seems the little red knight will bed down in there also. Her steed is trained to help her remove her armour.

Well, he clamps is beak and holds still, the little lucht does the rest. A hook is handy. She's got a lot of armour to take off.

....eventually, things settle down. You're able to retire to your rooms with fully bellies and settle into comfortable beds, afforded a rare luxury on the job of comfort and warmth.

... until the noises start. Crashing sounds. Unusual crashing sounds, you see. Dirk hears it first, followed by Vaera and Zyla. They creep towards the kitchens, weapons ready, in time after having roused the others to waryness and ...

... oh, it's just Pothy. The raven is on his back, having devoured ... everything he could find.

Ramirez is also here, no doubt the source of some of the sounds, similarly gorged. The kitchen ...

... the kitchen is ruined. Not even magic is saving things, in any event, and both of them seem relatively food-comatose.

Zyla shakes her head as she sees the cause of the noise chuckling to herself.

Eventually, Skiel finds a place that could accommodate them. It /is/ a magic mansion after all. The sleep is nice and welcome.

But then... midnight noises. What could possibly be going on.

Coming down the hallway in a jog is a... peculiar sight. Skielstregar is bereft of his armor, a shield raised up high and held taut against his body, him in nothing more than pants and a tunic. But upon his back is the redscale, riding piggy back, as his free arm is wrapped around the stump of her missing leg.

Sith-try deployed.

".... what isss go-... huh." He just flatly states.

Dirk leaps out of bed with thunderbelcher in hand as he hears the crashing sounds. At least he went to sleep with his shirt and trousers on--that could have been a truly horrifying sight for some otherwise. He bursts into the kitchen--and finds Pothy and Ramirez both stuffed like they're getting ready to be roasted. That might not be too far off the mark. "Beards o' me sweet tapdancin' -fathers-, you two!" he grumbles. "Ye scared me half tae death wi' yer carryin' on!" He looks up and around. "Lulu! Yer nae in on these shenanigans, are ye?" Lulu's head perks up from behind Ramirez' flank, her beak still stuffed with an egg. Blink-blink. "Hoo?"

Paenitia enters the kitchen, having eventually heard the commotion and everyone else. She has a sleeping cap with her mask attached, and a long, loose, sleeping shirt that trails on the ground. Her head turns, to observe Pothy, then Ramirez.

Pothy, then Ramirez.

Then Lulu.

"Ah. I have been outwitted. It is the masterful maneuver." She speaks to the invisible 'helpers', "Servants, are you strong enough to take him to the stables or must I do the carry." She shakes her head, "He is so full I do not think I can!"

Cor'lana wanders in eventually, wearing a long nightgown and yawning as she steps into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes. "Pothy, where'd you go? You weren't cuddling with me when I..."

She stops. She blinks a few times as she just stares at her raven on the floor, motionless and full-bellied... and then at the complete catastrophe that is around them. And Ramirez! Ay, pobrecito! Not to mention Lulu!

"Did you start this?" she asks Pothy, violet eyes just trained on the bird. "Oh, who am I kidding? Of /course/ you did. Pothy, please, I asked you to be a good bird and /behave/. Now you're half-dead on the floor, the kitchen's a mess, and you even roped poor Ramirez and Lulu into this! Gods, Pothy, /why/?"

Pothy looks up. His blue eyes are weary. Navos gives His toughest soldiers the hardest challenges.

"I think I'm going to be sick," he says in Cor'lana's voice, and then he rolls over and...

Turns out magical bloodline familiars vomit rainbows when they're full. Who knew?

The staff can not lift Ramirez. It's just not strong enough. But it *can* help. It will try, in any event, several transparent figures trying to aid in getting the companion back to his stable.

A stable whose lock will show conspicuous beak marks.

Vaera was propped up on Skielstregar's shoulders in a pair of pants, with her thunderbelcher trained on the door to the kitchen. It's only when the culprits are revealed that the red makari growns and folds away her weapon, collapsing it into a small rectangular box.

"We do still need to work tomorrow, I am sure you are aware." She chuffs

"Ha! You learn the locks! You can be the scaramouche to break into the places then." Paenitia says cheerfully, seeing the damage at the stables. She carefully gets her Ivory Steed inside.

She nods sagely, "Yes... the working tomorrow. Then we hope Ramirez is not sick. He does not disgorge as beautifully at Pothy, and the servings come in horse size."

Those are some terrible, terrible apples.

Skielstregar blinks, finally getting over the situation before quietly laughing and patting Vaera on the leg. "Yesss, yess, we do, but thisss isss still funny, no?" he rumbles happily. "Thisss one will help you back to bed, then assist in dragging Warrior Rameriez to hisss pen."

He shudders at the thought. "Please keep it in, Rameriez."

He helps Vaera back, then lends a hand to Paenitia if needed before turning to bed.

Dirk pinches the bridge of his nose. "Well, at least -you- dinnae puke up rainbows," he grumbles to Lulu. The petite little owl looks over at Pothy, fluffing her wings in sympathy. She sets the egg down and wings her way back over to Dirk's shoulder. "Hoo. Hoo-hoo," she hoots. Dirk just can't stay mad when she gives him the owly eyes. "A'right, a'right. Just use yer head next time, eh?" He looks around at the gathering, lowering his thunderbelcher. "Aye, Vaera's right. We need us some shut-eye." He turns and lumbers back to his bed. Lulu hoo-hoots as they depart. "Aye, it -was- pretty tasty fer bein' magick food, wasn't it?" he says in agreement.

Cor'lana just... Watches her familiar upchuck it all. She's horrified, and yet... It's just like a five-carriage pile-up. She can't look away.

Pothy eventually recovers from his self-inflicted ordeal. He staggers onto his feet. He looks like he's about to fall over again--maybe into his nice multi-colored mess--but then he just turns around and looks at Cor'lana. "Snacks?" he asks, tail wagging up and down.

He's met fully with a pair of glaring violet eyes, and his tail stops wagging, his blue eyes full of quiet panic as Cor'lana crisply strides up to him and...

Scoops him up underneath him, holding him like a hamburger that happens to have bird feet. She puts him onto her shoulder and she silently begins to clean up the mess with her magic, refusing to let the servants take care of it. Pothy just quietly watches.

"Are you mad with me?" he asks, once again borrowing Cor'lana's voice.

Cor'lana pauses. "No," she says. "I'm just /disappointed./"

Pothy hangs his head low. The price was paid... for admission to the buffet.

...things settle down again. Everyone returns to bed. People are just starting to drift off when ...

Cah-CRASH. This time louder, from another one of the wings of the mansion. "Oh my god if that's your people's familiars again, I am going to have a WORD. GO BACK TO BED," yells Farland from his room, and then he does just that.

... but then ...CRASH! THUD. BANG.

Paenitia leaves her room, in sleeping shirt and sleeping hat, wearing her sleeping mask and carrying her sleeping hammer. The little lucht heads towards the noise, yawning then adjusting the ever smiling man.

"What are the restrictions you set on the door, Farland? There is always the loopholes." She chuckles quietly.

This time, Skiel is less happy about being awoken. He leans out of his room, his shirt having been hastily pulled over and sitting crooked on the shiny man. "... what is it thisss time..." he rumbles, a touuuch of a growl in it.

Cor'lana looks quite groggy as she leans out, too, still wearing her nightgown from earlier. Pothy sits on her shoulder, and he quietly murmurs, "I didn't do it," into her ear--copying one of the garden pixies this time.

"Yeah, I know you did," Cor'lana murmurs back, before she peers out of her door more fully. "What's going on?"

Farland doesn't answer. He's clearly put his earmuffs on and going to sleep, but in truth, no one should be able to get in here.

... but that is another loud crash just now as everyone else is filtering out into the hallway.

Vaera was true to her word, it did not matter if the things in the rooms were destroyed. The red makari had prepared for any further disturbances, and hopped out on a crutch made from one of the posts ripped off the bed with one end carved slightly and padded with one of the curtains ripped off one of the walls, while her rifle is tucked under her other arm. "If it is that bird again, then it will be the one turned into a snack." The red makari grumbles.

Paenitia heads towards the noise, carefully opening the door and sneaking in for a peek, readying her hammer in case someone, or something, needs a goodnight tap-tap.

Did you know dwarves can levitate? Just add one (1) unexpected crash-boom-bang while he's snoring peacefully and watch the magic happen! Dirk lets loose a yelp at the commotion, lifting several feet into the air before tumbling to the floor. He scrabbles to his feet, snatching up his thunderbelcher as he staggers back out into the main room with the others. "Dana's -teats-, what is it now?!" he cries in a strangled tone. Pothy and Lulu both get the hairy eyeball, but Pothy's there doing his best innocent act, and Lulu is perched on his bed's headboard, one head tucked under her wing. She looks out at the others, blink-blinking. "Hoo!"

"NO SNACK," Pothy protests, and he flies off Cor'lana's shoulder. The familiar is not about to get turned into a snack. He's going back to bed.

"Thank you so much for your help, Pothy," Cor'lana mutters, and she quickly shuts the door, pulling on her adventuring gear within a matter of moments and emerging once she's ready.

That groaning sound coming from the east wing, opposite the kitchen, doesn't sound good. It's like the wood of the mansion floor itself is buckling.

Skielstregar sighs as the noises continue again, him looking over his shoulder to make sure Vaera was with him. A hand reaches out. "Malefic, come hither, please."

A black blob manifests on the floor, as it begins to drip upwards like gravity was flipped. The drops form into an inky shape, then solidify into his gleaming silver halberd. "It will take too long for usss to get our things, letss go check out that noise," he rumbles tiredly, advancing with Paenitia.

Cor'lana emerges from her room in her adventuring robe and gear mostly on, even if her circlet is a tiny off-kilter. She doesn't exactly have the luxury of time nor Telamon's eyes to guide her. "It's not the spell itself that conjured this place," she says. "Otherwise the whole place would be shaking. Let's go."

She murmurs an incantation of protective magic as she follows with the group.

Vaera returns into her room for a minute before emerging with one more leg than before, so she can join the others in heading down the hall. "We will be fine I hope, but the thought that something might be able to enter this spell is concerning, to say the least." Vaera chuffs. "Be on your guards, though it may yet be the unaccounted for hippogryph."

... down the way you go, then. Welp. East wing. There's damage to the floor. It looks like it's starting to sag and some of the wooden flooring is broken ...

Skielstregar did not grab anything else from his room save for his necklace, his belt to keep his pants on, and his halberd. Yep, this would suck if they ran into something. As they get to the damage, he rubs his neck while looking at it. "Vaera, Dirk, can you tell where the damage leads off to?" he asks if the huntsmen.

Paenitia arrives at the damaged floor of the East Wing. She's closer to the ground, so it makes examining such things easier. Her head shakes, "something was smash this, until it start to give."

"The some thing is inside already. It should not be possible. Unless the casting of the spell in the Felwood corrupt it somehow. Someone who have the magic knowledge, what are the ways around the Mage's Mansion spell?" The little Lucht peers around, hammer raised, "Servants!" She turns to unseen ones, "Is there the invisible occupant you can point out for me? Take them a cup."

Dirk takes a moment to hurriedly shimmy into his armor. He fumbles with his bandolier, getting it caught in his beard as he tries to get it slung over his chest, and his boots are unlaced, but at least he's combat ready. For the most part. He studies the floor, his shaggy white brows furrowing. "Dame Paenitia's right," he growls, gripping his thunderbelcher. He looks up and around, racking the slide. CHK-CHAK. "We're nae alone in here. Summat come in here -with- us."

Cor'lana... pauses in what she's doing. 'The some thing is inside already' gets the wheels in her head turning. They are in the Felwood, or on the cusp of it. There is something inside that cannot be seen...

She draws a breath. Calm. Composed. Closing her eyes for a moment... And then the violet eyes snap open.

"Reveal yourself by order of the descendant of Alud'rigan, the Feathered One," she demands. "Cease and desist in your destruction at once." <Sylvan>

They can not. They, themselves, can not see what is invisible, after all. They stare at Paenitia helplessly.

One of them offers Pothy an egg.

Can Pothy be offered an egg in this trying time? Yes. Yes he can. He politely takes the egg and swallows it whole.

Cor'lana, meanwhile, squints at the lack of audible response to her demand of whatever invisible assailant they're dealing with. "Well, if it's fey, it didn't hear me, doesn't care about my ancestor, and-or did hear me, has stopped what it is doing, but doesn't want to reveal themselves yet."

She squints harder. Like that's going to help things. "Or maybe it /can't/."

There is, indeed, no response.

...and then a crashing sound from the *west* wing.

Farland is somehow sleeping through this at the moment, but it's a very similar sound to what you heard from over *here*.

Skielstregar grimaces and huffs, cold air streaming from his nostrils as he whirls around. "It moved," he growls, gripping Malefic tighter and making his way towards the West Wing. "Let uss be swift. Ravensss, when we get there, use your glittery thing if they are invisible."

"Got it, and yeah, I will," Cor'lana tells Skielstregar as she follows quickly on his trail. "Problem is, I need to know where it /is/ to fire my spell off at it..."

Lyme grabs his sword, and follows. "This isn't right, but magic hasn't been right lately, either."

Dirk scowls dourly as he turns to face the crash. From the area they -just- passed. "Argh! If they're -invisible-, can't ye do summat tae un-invisible them?" he grumbles. "I cannae shoot what I cannae see!"

"You follow the noise, I will go check on Farland" Paenitia calls, heading for the gnome's room, "Maybe he casting in the sleep."

Farland's door is understandably locked.

But he can be heard snoring.

Loudly.

This is a sound Paenitia has heard before. At least the gnome is okay. Good gods, though, can he snore.

Arrival in the west wing for the others, however, shows more damage. This time to an interior wall. What looks like fist-sized gouges in the wall are now in evidence, as if something had attempted to punch the wall out.

... but whatever it is, it is not in immediate appearance.

Lyme starts to examine the walls -- looking not just at the walls, but around them too, for clues of something-destructive's passing.

"Well, it seems something dangerous has followed us in. It is my fault, I was tired and did not consider that the safety of this area might be breached." Vaera chuffs as she goes to investigate further. "Well, it is not travelling by foot, I know that for certain. But something is making marks on the ceiling, so that may be it's preferred method of movement."

"Marks on the /ceiling/?" Cor'lana asks in horror, casting her eyes upward. She... certainly hadn't been looking up there. At all.

Pothy quietly looks around for snacks.

Lyme nods slowly. "Yes. It's on the ceiling." He tilts his head, and exhales. "Wonder if it's been looking at us the whole time."

Skielstregar is a bit busy playing guard, him looking about before- "... the ceiling...?" he says in a similar tone to Lana, hesitantly looking up

"It is a magic barrier." Paenitia quietly arrives, escaping the well known snoring. "There is no need to worry about the safety because there is no way in, unless the mistake is made, like Farland wave at all of us to give the permission and there is the treant forty feet away he get accidentally too."

"I go take the look outside, then come back in." She decides, "I need to get the few things first." She's off again.

But the burly old dwarf doesn't even slow. He turns his torso and runs right at it, shoulder-first. It may be a magicked door, but he's going to do his damndest to bust it down!

As you reach the hallway towards Paenitia's room, the door opens again and the cavalier is thrown out, smashing into a wall. There's no sign of whatever did this to them. If it's still there, one can't see it. It seems to have abandoned it's assault of Paenitia, however.

The lucht felt it let go and, well, it threw her through the door. Literally threw it. It's strong.

Smashing the door right open.

Paenitia hits the far wall with a solid thump that knocks the air out of her. Still, the little knight is focused, and gasps in a weak voice, "glitterdust... invisible..."

DEFINITELY invisible.

She gestures at her room, "... strong."

Vaera turned around and was running back with the rest of the group, only to find the lucht being tossed out of the room.

"Whatever it is, we know it is in the room for the moment." Vaera chuffs. "So, we deal with it now. If you need healing Paenitia, let me know, and I will do what I can."

Everything in front of Cor'lana is covered in glitter. It does not seem to have quite reached the creature itself, if there even *is* a physical creature...

... that is until there's a subtle distortion of the glitter. Something above. A small gust of air, disturbing it after it settles.. .
