Benthus returns from his duties in the temple and spots Godwyn, "So, are you ready to go to the ox-strength tavern?"

Godwyn turned toward Benthus and gave a nod, placing a hand on her breastplate. "We need to move quickly. Our lead could be lost in a heartbeat." She nodded toward the others. "Duty calls, everyone. Goddess preserve you all!"

Hethyr blinks, looking between Godwyn and Benthus. "...Lead? Somethin' up, then?"

Fiore has arrived.

Bennet blinks, and perks up. "Iffen ya need a hand, I don't need ta be back for a spell."

Benthus nods his head to Hethyr, "Someone was murdered at some back alley near our district. Local enforcers are trying to get a lead on who might have been with the victim. A Terrence Fold is said to be the person. He frequents the Ox tavern when not at home. At the moment, the enforcers have not seen him return to his abode, so I might be prudent to get some information on people who know who Terrence Fold is. Thus our departure towards the infamous pub."

Benthus nods to Bennet, "It's likely we'll just have a chat with the locals there and find out where he may be. But if you think caution is needed, you are free to arm yourself."
Fiore had been standing off to the side and listening to Benthus as he explained things. "Well, If you're headed there, lets get going Benthus." She says before waving to Godwyn and the others.

Hethyr slips off the bench, armored boots clanking as they hit the marble stonework of the plaza. "If you'll have another hand, I'd be glad t'help. More ears, more likely t'catch a word outta place."

Bennet quirks a brow at Benthus. "Whatever gave ya the impression I ever ain't armed?"

Benthus looks at Bennet...

Tall and leaning towards lanky, Bennet Susson reminds the average person of a strip of leather, left out in the sun too long. His skin is tanned by years in the sun, more than a few weeks of winter could fade. The skin around his eyes has started to wrinkle from squinting into the wind too much, but the blue orbs in the center are still bright and clear. His hair's cropped short, little darker towards the roots, but bleached out by the sun once it grows. A few stands of grey are starting to crowd their way in at the temples. His jaw ain't too wide, but sits strong. May have been a pretty boy once, but those years have past. 

 His cloths suit him. Simple, durible, made for long days a work that often as not last into the night. Tanned leather, darkened to grey, and sturdy denium, built on a foundation of solid boots, and topped with a good hat. 

 His mustache flows wide and strong, it's ends carefully trimmed and properly pointed. It's the mustache of a solid man, who knows a day full of hard work, and has the grit to face another one tomarrow.

Benthus nods his head to Bennet, apologetically. "Pardon my ignorance." He then looks to the rest and says, "Shall we go then?"

The group arrives at the seedier part of the city and make their way towards the ill-reputed establishment. As was discussed before, Benthus stays by the door to provide lookout, as the rest of the people go in and mingle with the patrons...

Being a semi-regular to the Ox strength tavern, Fiore seems to blend in rather well. While she doesn't drink, the bartender seems to already have her customary tea out for her. it actually smells sorta good as Fiore picks up the cup and sips at it.

Bennet nods in greeting to a few of those patrons, and is nodding to in turn. Seedy and of ill-repute the Ox may be, but is still one of the best watering holes in the city. ...which might say something about the other taverns...?

The death of the man in the alley lingered in the back of her mind.

Hearing how exactly he'd died made it even worse. Whoever this was, they were not only powerful, they were cruel and unfeeling. Who knows how many times it'd happened, and without their notice? No, this had to end now, and this would be the start of it.

She made her way inside and sat at the bar next to Fiore. "I'll have what she's having." She glanced toward Fiore. "Remember, I don't want to frighten him. We need to get him to talk about this without disturbing anything."

While the Khazad hasn't yet set foot in this bar, in particular, she seems at home enough in the surroundings to be very personally familiar with its like. Very visibly a cleric or not, she ambles toward the bar, pulling up a stool at Godwyn's other side. "Stout an' bread," she says, listening closely to Godwyn's summary. "Need more'n luck for that, lookin' around," she murmurs in answer. "Unless y'r idea of 'nice' is swingin' a chair's only half broke."

The tavern is always in some sort of trouble, whether from the regular patrons who are just eager to spread trouble around, or from the outside who just want to destroy the tavern. Today, like any other day, fight is brewing at one side of the pub. What makes this interesting is that one of the people instigating the fight is openly yelling at anyone listening to him, "Where is Terrence Fold!? If no one says anything, I will break all your heads!"

Godwyn grimaced. "I think we just got our lead... and he is not in a good way." She glanced toward the man. "Hethyr, have you ever heard of tempting fate?" The Sentinel smirked. "You just did it." She sighed. "The clean way is out, then. Everyone have your weapons at the ready..."

Bennet peers towards the commotion. Someone threatening to take on the entire bar really isn't all that unusual... but this guy sounds sober.

Fiore raises her eyebrows as she hears this from across the bar. "Well....looks like we're not the only ones looking for him. Except I think we're the more peaceful solution." She then chuckles to Godwyn. "Sometimes, my friend, you don't need to order."

There appears to be five of these trouble-makers, and they seem to be good with their fists... And feets... and knees... and elbows...etc.

"Bearin' in mind that this's a bar," Heather says, "might be as we wanna keep weapons outta this? Only it ain't what you'd call neighborly inna proper brawl, an' all..." Sighing, she slides off her stool, dropping down coin enough for her order, when she gets back to sample it. "Let's be about it, then..."

Wading into the melee, the Khazad takes a swing at the closest of the agitators; missing, but making her brick-like presence known. "Oi!" she yells, as the answering fist sails past her. "Settle down 'afore I sit ya down!"
The brawler near Hethyr sees the intent in her eyes and immediately covers himself, raising both forearms in defence...

As the dwarf seems to make herself known to the assailants, Fiore sighs a bit. "Well....I'll sit you down then." She says as she swings one MASSIVE blow to the gut of the one Hethyr attacks. it doesn't stun him, but the Giantborn's strength is still enough to grab a bit of attention.

These brutes make it a living of busting people’s heads, and it shows in how they dish out their punishment. Bennet is attacked by two thugs, both scoring in their hits. One is on Fiore and delivers a reply to what he received. The one on Godwyn is not so lucky and misses his mark. But the one on Hethyr smacks her around.

Bennet takes his lumps with a grin, and grabs up his seat to return the effort. It's big and heavy, but also awkward, swinging wide. "Ha! Bar fight! This takes me back..." Not all paladins are the boring stuck-up type...

The guy hits Fiore, which Fiore isn't surprised, since she's a big target. She oofs as she takes the hit to her gut, but that simply conceals the left hook she nails the guy with, but her right cross doesn't find purchase since she hits the guy so hard with the first hit.

The two thugs on Bennet really don't like his face and keep smaking their beefy fists at it. The one on Fiore, gives her a good kick to her knees, hoping to bring her to his level. The other two thugs miss their attacks.

Bennet isn't grinning any more. That hurt. Taking a quick step back, the cowboy swings and launches his former seat, his aim a bit better, but still deflecting without real effect.

Godwyn cleared her throat. "Surely this can be resolved without the need for--" Clang. One of the thugs decides to try and deck her, only for his fist to impact her breastplate. "--force. Well, fine." She ducks under the second attempt to hit her, then counters. The first jab misses, but the second straight decks him in the face. The issue is that his punch hit her at the same time, and she stumbled backward. Godwyn managed to take up a stance, just like Moonie taught her. "Fine, have it your way."

The bad guy that is facing Godwyn checks her attacks and counters her move before she could lay her justice on him.

Fiore was still plugging away at her opponent, getting hit, but she's still attacking two hits to his one. Missing a kick, she still decks him with the fist to his nose.

The two on Bennet are pretty serious in beating him up, kicking him and smashing his ribs with their knees, and doing all sorts of dirty and cheap tricks against him. He looks pretty bad now. As for Fiore's combatant, he strikes true again and causes another bruising to her. As for Godwyn and Hethyr, they are spared.

Bennet is frowning a bit. The cowboy rests a hand on his chest, a grey mist soothing some of the ache away. "Okay lads, enough. No need to turn this unplesant." Of course he acts as he talks, swinging to conenct with a jaw in a glancing blow... and takes some pain for it in return.

The two thugs on Bennet find it easy to read Bennet's next move and so allows one of them to open up for a blow so that they can really flail their arms and legs at him...

"Wonderful" Godwyn makes her way toward the newly-minted Sunguard and places a hand on her right shoulder. "Althea bless..." It wasn't much, but it was enough to keep her standing. She turned toward the man she'd moved away from. "Let's see what we can do about this, then."

"'Preciated," Hethyr says, diving in low to pull her assailant's feet out from under... only to miss, as the fighter moves aside.

Fiore is still plugging away at her opponent. her first attack misses, but she glances the second attack.

The two thugs on Bennet continue their punching and kicking of the man until he finally falls over, unconscious.  And even after he is down, they continue to kick him in the head.  The same treatment is given to Fiore by her oppressor, giving her as much pain as she was giving him.

Godwyn grimaced. Okay, this was not so good. Another attack pings off of her armor, yet she maintains her stance. Surely something good had to come of this, right? Well, one way to find out.

Godwyn sized the man up and took a good swing at him... and connects with a right hook.

It was the only thing she felt good about as she was laid into with a punch that dented her armor, right in the chest plate. She sucked in a breath of air as her rib cage pounded against her heart, but aside from that, she still stood. "Okay... that was much better." She took up stance again.

"I... said... SIDDOWN!" Hethyr roars, snatching hold of the fighter's ankles and hauling backward, sending the fighter crashing to the floor.

Now the battle turns against Fiore as she misses both of her attacks.

The two meanies who have ganged up on Bennet laugh with sadistic glee as they continue to kick the man in the face and back of his head. The other thugs continue to duel with their opponents and it is only the one up against Hethyr that manages to smack her about.

Hethyr 's head snaps back as she takes a foot to the chin, and pauses a moment to spit away a bit of blood, driving her fist into the man's shin. "Dunno what your problem is, buddy, but stay down. We'll sort you later."

Godwyn grimaced. "Figured as much." Something in the back of her head tingled, a surety of things. "Well it looks like the merciful option is out. Prepare for your punishment at last." But first, she pulled out a crystal blue rose pendant from right pocket and took in a breath. "Althea, grant us salvation!!"

Boom. A wave of pale blue shot outward, encompassing everyone in the fight. Sadly, that meant EVERYONE, but she didn't have too many options.

Her assailant on the floor and occupied presently by the paladin, Hethyr charges toward the pair of thugs savaging poor Bennet. Clutching her holy symbol, she throws out her free hand, sending a wave of golden, healing light into Bennet's bloodied frame.

Fiore's not doing so well. She manages to get a good hit on her assailant, but she's looking rather ragged.

 The roll of thunder sounds in the tavern... holy power or alchemic blast is a tough call... but it's loud, it's painful, and it blasts a thug right onto his ass.

Godwyn smiled, and it was serene. Almost beatific. "By the will of Althea, I hereby judge you guilty."

Her hands gleamed. Not just those, but her armor flared with a pale blue light. She let him hit her... and then she decked him with her right fist in a cross, putting her leverage into it.

The attack would send him flying, probably break his nose.

The Thug that fell down begins to get up, while the other thug gets over his surprise at Bennet's recovery. He tries to kick him in the head again... All the while the one on Fiore attacks, so also the one with Godwyn. Hethyr's opponent is up and looking about whom to gang up on...

With her compatriots being severely beat upon, and Hethyr in the middle of the bar... the cleric sighs, closing her eyes and taking hold of her medallion again. "Trying times, Father... help us see them through." In echo of Godwyn's earlier wave of blue, a second flare of golden-white light washes through the room, healing friend and foe alike.

Bennet rises to his feet, bruises fadeing and cuts sealing up. "Ya lads can still run for it. Ain't too late." Click-clack, clack click! The snap of a fresh round might drive the point home. Maybe.

Godwyn takes a step forward. "Well? Do you want to attack again? Go ahead... TRY!" She rushed at him, her right hand aimed at his head. He moved out of the way at the last second... but she wanted to miss.

A distraction for her real move, placing her left hand just on her breastplate. The armor wouldn't heal itself, but she would. The surge of positive energy emboldened her.

The thug that got hit hard attacks Bennet again, and delivers a good round elbow punch to his body. The other foe is not so good in his fight. The one on Godwyn misses, as well as the one on Fiore. The thug who got tripped by Hethyr vents his anger out at her...

The one on Fiore misses because he is now a bloody heap...

Godwyn grimaced as she sets herself again. Now it was time to do something a bit more interesting. She stepped forward and swung at him yet again, except this time with an elbow to his gut to try and wind him. The might of the hit would send him crashing to the floor... three feet away, and with the air knocked right out of him.

The leader of the thugs says, "Shut your trap, law man! You got no power here! And we say you get out before he toss your sorry (censored) out into the docks!"

Godwyn grimaced as she took in Hethyr's state. She had to make sure everyone got out of this in one piece, mostly... so she placed a hand on Hethyr's shoulder again. Only this time, it was far more potent. "Guide us, Mother Goddess." With those four words, the Sunguard would start to feel much better. "All right, let's get this done."

As the healing magic surges through Hethyr's weary bones, she straightens, eyes flicking over the battlefield with renewed intensity. Loosing a wordless, roaring battle cry, she hefts her hammer, lowering her shield arm and charging through overturned chairs and bar detritus, looping her weapon around to slam into the back of one of Bennet's assailants.

The thug on Bennet doesn't give up. He thrust kicks the man hard, bouncing him back against the bar stop. The one on Fiore also manages to hit her hard. The rest miss.

By now, the battle is beginning to wear, and the leader's taunts are starting to annoy the cleric. Were she inclined toward excuses, it would be that she would use to explain why she couldn't manage to hit the broad side of a brawler with her hammer, just now.

The bad guy on Bennet is wearing down, as his kicks and punches are missing more than they are hitting. So is it with the rest of the baddies. Except for Fiore's opponent, who knocks her down.

Bennet tsks and lets the smoking rifle fall from his hands. Grabbing his blade, the Absolution whips the sword foreward in a sudden strike, too fast for a proper defense, leaving a deep slice along his foes front. A powerful blow, but not quite enough.

Standing woobly on his feet, the leader of the gang gives Bennet a good whallop of his right hand. As for the rest of his gang, they fail to down any more members. The one on Fiore gets to give her a good kick in the head.

Bennet reverses his grip on the blade, and straight arms the brawling leader. It's not really a 'proper' move, and not typically one for a paladin... but the Grey Lady is a little more inclined for getting the job done. There's a wet crunch, the fighter gasps, and sinks to the sawdust covered floor.

Godwyn swung again, a right hook connecting with the man's jaw. He fell again, and this time it didn't look like he was getting up. She decided to help him.

Godwyn grabbed him by the collar and took in a breath, the smile returning despite her divine anger from before. "Now then... this man... what was his name again?" She tilted her head to the right, then nodded. "Terrence, yes. Interesting that you should know him." She rammed the back of his head into the floor. "Do I have your attention yet? Good. Where is he?"

(Lost the roll but Fiore managed to stun her opponent)

One problem with knocking down a Giantborn.....it's pissing them off. The guy give Fiore a good whack on the head as she gets up, but a nasty uppercut lifts the guy off of his feet when it hits him on the ribcage.

With their leader down, the rest of the ruffians seem to have lost their steam and the ability to fight. Those that are not down make a run for it, and those that are down, well, they stay down. There is a wild roar of exultation from the crowded tavern. It would appear that more people have come inside unnoticed and have taken liberty in betting who would win in the fight. But anyhoo, victory goes to the good guys, but it was a close fight.

Godwyn grimaced. "You didn't answer, so let's try another one." Thump. Another bang of his head against the floor, to jog his memory. "How do you know him?" She needed to know, *now*. This was their only lead.

Just as the last of the conscious foes manage to leap through an open window, the door opens with Benthus at the front, followed by a possey of city guards. "Am I too late?" He says to his comrades, as the guards begin shackling the troublemakers, at the booing of some of the crowd members.

Godwyn huffed and let the man go, into the hands of the guards. "These men were looking for our lead. Apparently they are connected with him." She frowned. "Distinctly evil, the lot of them. This does not bode well, Benthus."

The leader is out cold. But the stunned man who is now in the custody of the guards says, "You will never get any information from us! Mattias Croak will get us all out before you can make us talk! Hahahaha!!!"

Bennet winces and sighs, taking a moment to place a bandage on the unconscious leader. No reason to let the guy bleed out. "Heh. Don't be so sure. Got ways ta make ya talk." His focus then shifts towards his rifle, and getting it in proper working order again.

Benthus applies a wave of healing to all the people who got injured in the fight. "I wish I was here earlier. You all look like you could have needed it."

Godwyn took in a breath. "Stop!"

She made her way over to the man once they halted, and gave him a good once-over. "Well then, someone who wants to speak. The Gods favor you today." She cleared her throat. "I would try to reason with you, but you don't understand reason. So..." She turned toward Fiore and nodded in the man's direction with her head. "...I'll leave it to my friend here, since you're the one that knocked her senseless. She certainly returned the favor." Godwyn smiled. "I'm sure she can convince you."

(The heroes later find out that the thugs were employed to a certain Mattias Croak.  Finding the man might shed more light on the murder mystery)
