Kira sets off into the water, with Dirk holding onto a piece of string attached to her clothes. The darkness swallows her up and leaves you down one person whilst you wait for some kind of reply that she's ready to come back or has found the miners that you're looking for. Meanwhile, while you wait, Andelena warns you that there's something in the dark. Something that tried to enter her mind - unsuccessfully - but still.
Telamon frowns at Andie. "I've got wards against that sort of thing, but..." He glances around in the dark. "Alright. First things first." He begins to gesture, fingers forming intricate patterns. "Baras, kalag, dana i'iz," he incants, and a second shimmer of starlight wraps around him, like a cloak hanging from his shoulders. "I can't really -swim-, but I don't need to breathe. Hopefully Kira doesn't get in trouble..."
GAME: Telamon casts Overland Flight. Caster Level: 12 DC: 21
Dirk grips the string with one hand, and his thunderbelcher with the other. Lulu perches atop his shoulder, head-twisting this way and that as she ruffles her feathers. "Hoo. Hoo-oo." Dirk's whiskers bristle as he scowls out into the gloom. "Aye, lass, I hate it down here too," he mutters. "Especially if there's some nasty demon tryin' tae play hinky wi' our gobs." He flicks a worried glance back to the water. "Hurry back Kira, this water's -cold-. Ye cannae stay in it too long!"
Andelena grits her teeth together as she surveys the situation, hand still clenched into a tight fist. "Whatever happens," she says, "I'm not letting people go without something."
She murmurs a holy prayer of protection for herself and her allies--and with a small shimmer of light around them, it is clear that Daeus answers.
GAME: Andelena casts Bless. Caster Level: 5 DC: 14
Kira has not been in the water -too- long, but Dirk is right: it IS cold. She may not be able to hear his calling due to the water, but she can communicate somewhat. There is a light tug-tug on the line, a pause, and then another deliberate tug-tug.

Meanwhile, Dolan continues to work on stopping or at least further slowing the flow of water. The cloak will not hold it forever - the water will eventually soak through - but it might just be long enough, especially given the good oiled wool meant to shed water.

Dirk's brows furrow. Blink. Blink blink. He looks down at himself. He holds his arm out and lets his thunderbelcher drop, then drops the string attached to Kira. Turning, he looks to Telamon. Without any warning, he pelts forward with shocking speed and leaps. "HYARRRRGH!" Lulu leaps off his shoulder with a panicked hoot as he bowls the half-sil over into the water! SPLOOSH!

Well, this escalated quickly. Telamon finds himself head over heels in cold water, with Dirk grabbing at him. Oddly, he's not panicking, but that's because he's actually done this before -- in the Tornmawr, no less. . o O (Damn. I doubt I could pry him off me, but...) He begins to wriggle around in apparent terror, before suddenly going limp in the water.

For a moment, Dirk's expression is one of sadistic glee. A full rictus grin as his eyes contract to pinpricks. But then, a moment later, he blinks. Blink blink. His expression turns to one of abject horror. He scrabbles back and away from Telamon, scrubbing all over himself. "Out! OUT! GET OUTTA ME! HGGGGH!" He scrabbles to his feet, wheeling around as his gaze darts furtively from shadow to shadow. "Dana save me! Wha... what did it make me -do-?!" His gaze rests where Telamon lies, and his face turns white as milk. "No... no no NO NO!!" He rushes back to Telamon, gripping his shoulders and giving him a shake. "Oh please, gods, don't be dead! Wake up, laddie, wake -up-!" Tears start streaming down his face as he tries to rouse the half-sil back to consciousness.

"Shitfuck," Andelena says, the two words melding together into one super-swear as everything goes sour. She goes into the water and whips her hand out at the line, grabbing it.
Then she turns her steel-grey gaze to Telamon--more accurately, Telamon and Dirk, and the very convincing show that Telamon puts on. Lest the dwarf dive deeper into hysterics, she tears the half-sil from him. "Damn it, kid, you /just/ got married, don't fucking die on us," she hisses.
Dolan had just finished stuffing his cloak into the crack, and the flow of water begins to diminish and finally peter out entirely, when all hell breaks loose.
"Damn it!" Without thinking, Dolan dashes into the water and grabs the line behind Andelena, the chill swirling around his booted ankles. He ignores it for the moment, instead lunging also for the ranger's collar with his free hand. "Get off him and calm down! We'll get him out! We can't lose her!" he shouts.

Telamon realizes this might not have been the best idea as now Dirk is panicking and Andelena is yelling at him. His eyes immediately pop open as she hauls him up and he waves his hands. "I'm all right! I'm all right! Dirk, Andelena, calm down, I wasn't drowning!" Indeed, he seems perfectly fine, aside from being soaking wet. "Who's got the rope for Kira?"

Dirk is, simply put, a mess. Sobbing, baying, and bally-hooing as Dolan drags him off Telamon. And he only gets worse when Telamon sits up and reveals that he's really -really- all right. "Oh gods... oh -gods-, I'm sorry laddie, I'm so sorry! It was -in- me! Dana save me, it was -in- me an' it -made me do it-!" He looks around fearfully, shaking like a leaf from head to foot. "We have tae find it... we have tae -kill- it! Afore it does anything -worse-!"
The darkness seems to darken, sucking away at the light in a most unnatural fashion. Something is _in_ that darkness, but where is it? What will it do next? Fear rides the shadows, but you all ignore the crawling sensation of your flesh and work together to continue on.

You all hear a man scream in the room beyond the water.
GAME: Dolan rolls cmb: (15)+9: 24
Andelena's eyes go wide at the screaming and the darkening of light in the chamber. She growls a little. "Motherfucker!" Of course she swears, too. It's one of her only comforts in this situation.
She heads in the sound of the screaming, stopping at the bend where the water fills the tunnel. "It came from this direction," she says. "The screaming. We /need/ to help."
"Andie, help me pull them back!" Dolan, too, hears that scream, and it fills him with an urgent file that leaves his flesh-and-blood eye wide. "Dirk, for the love of the holy Knight's blade, come be useful and help me pull Kira out!" So saying, he braces his feet and gives the rope a good, long, hard pull, then swears. "Damn it! It's not pulling! It's solid! Come help me!"
Kira startles at the scream, though quickly realizes the significance. "It is alright. I am here to help," she attempts to quickly assure the screamer. This also means she moves no further and turns back about to stand between him and it. She hopes.
"They are not worth your time. I am right here." It isn't exactly a taunt, as her tone and temperament aren't really built for that. Then there's tugging on the rope.
"THEY ARE HERE!" she yells, unsure if the others can hear her. "IT IS HERE WITH US! THEY NEED YOUR HELP!"
Telamon shakes his head to clear any lingering disorientation from being tumbled, water droplets flying off. "Dirk, snap out of it man. We got work to do." Then the creeping wave of fear hits, but this time it doesn't claw its way into Tel's heart. He grits his teeth. "You think I fear the dark? I am -starborn- -- I was wrought to walk the roads between suns!" He throws it back in the shadowy entity's teeth, and then rising to his feet, he snaps his fingers.
And then there is -light-. Not the simple magical torch, but a blazing -torrent- that banishes the shadows entirely. The color isn't quite right for the light of Daeus -- it seems more blue than golden -- but it fills everyone's heart with a touch of warmth, the knowledge of distant stars smiling kindly as Tel moves over towards Andelena and the screams he can hear.

Zyla hears the yells and looks at the others, "Damn." she mutters and focuses on her ki, a wave of energy fills her and heals some of her aches and bruises. She looks at the water and then wastes no time and wades into the water and then starts to swim, along the rope. Of course, impulse got the better of her as she gets there, but...um can't see anything.
The dim, warm light of the stars starts to fade. Darkens, darkens, and then dies. The lanterns you hold flicker and barely keep you illuminated. It's as if they are being sucked into the shadows.

Dirk slowly picks up his thunderbelcher, racking the slide with a meaningful CHK-CHAK! "I know yer in here, ye filthy sheepfucker," he growls. Now that he knows Telamon is really okay, the old snowbeard is -furious-. He swings up his thunderbelcher and fires into the dark. CHK-BOOM! BOOM! The cold iron bullets PYANG harmlessly off rock. "GARRRRRGH! COME OUT AN' FACE ME, YE BASTARD!"
Andelena does as she's told. Dolan needs her help, so she gets back over to him and grabs the line with him. "I got you, hon," she tells him, pulling with a might on the line. She remains steadfast even as the darkness is falling. The Sunguard cannot be afraid of the dark, after all.
Suddenly, Kira's voice finally makes it past all the splashing and swearing on Dolan's side, and her intent becomes clear. "She needs help!" he shouts. "I'll anchor this side of the rope! Follow the rope and help her!"

"Healer's Grace be upon us," Kira intones quietly. She prefer the ire be upon her, as well, and has no issues tending her own wounds. She then hears sounds of another emerging from the water. Yes, it could be a threat, another demon, but she is more optimistic than that.
"There are miners in here and they need help! Somewhere behind me, I can't see. There is something else in here, too!"
It's then that she lunges forward blindly and ... manages to find purchase on... someone or something. "I think I have it!" She could also be hugging a miner, but either way it is an improvement?

Telamon glares as the light begins to fade and drain away again. "Alright, I've had about enough of this shit." He touches the lapel of the robe he wears underneath the coat, his other hand on his haversack. A shimmer of magical energy flickers around him, and all the white fades from his eyes... leaving only two portals into the starry sky. He scans the area around, then freezes, and yells at Andelena, "Andie, BESIDE YOU!"

Zyla is trying to feel around for miners and tries to get between them and where she hears Kira, "Can't see either." she mutters.
Dirk casts around, looking for a target. But there's nothing to be seen. Not even when Telamon cries out a warning to Andalena. But hearing Kira calling out... that's something he can handle. He slings his tricorne off his head. "Lulu! Stay wi' Telamon an' help 'im!" The little owl hoo-hoots in agreement, and flutters over to hover next to Telamon. Taking a firm grip on his thunderbelcher, Dirk sucks a huge breath and plunges into the frigid water. He grips the line connecting to Kira with a death grip, fumbling his way through the chill. His cheeks puff out as he strains to keep his breath in his lungs. It's hard going. But eventually, he pops up on the other side with a glub. "Gwaagh! I'm here, lass! Everyone just sit still, I can see all o' ye!" It's not often he's forced to rely on his inborn darkvision, but he adjusts to the strange silver-on-black field of view quickly. He trundles over to where Kira and the miners are. "Not tae fret, lads, we're goin' tae get ye all out o' here!"

Telamon's cry goes out, and Andelena doesn't hesitate. "You're not going to get me, motherfucker," she growls as she goes to attack the invisible assailant. She brings Deliverance down onto the entity with more ferocity than she's ever done before.
"Here's what you're going to do, you miserable fucking invisible bastard," Andelena growls. "You're going to stand still and you're going to go back to whatever shitty little cursed hole you came from, you shadowy son of a /bitch/." She's not happy.
Kira can hear Dirk's arrival and even identify him by voice. "Guide them out of here, please! While I have hold of...this." She doesn't know what -this- is, other than guessing it has sharp claws. Which she hopes to keep away from the others by taking a careful step or two away from the others.
_Andie's in trouble! Damn it all._ But Dolan cannot just abandon the others - no wait, there is a thing he can do. With fingers that swiftly chill even as he works, he lashes the wet rope to his own waist, anchors the knot, and then reaches for the stylized dragon around his neck. "Holy Knight, send your blessing that I might be Andelena's shield."
Andelena knows exactly what spell that is.

Telamon's voice is strong, as his fingers move in a well-practiced rhythm. "Izigi'edena zanzana," he chants, and five blue-white stars flare into existence around him before rocking away. Zipping past Dolan and Andelena to slam into the half-seen form, pummeling it with darts of force as Telamon speaks, "It's some kind of demon. I remember seeing a picture of one." He shows his teeth to the creature. "The wrath of the stars and the wood are upon you!"
Zyla takes up a defensive posture as she tries to keep herself between the miners and where she things the bad thing is, "Is there any light, or someone help me see?" she asks and shakes her head, "Should have memorized some place on the other side before I came over."

Dirk's eyes get wide as he makes out the... -thing-... that Kira has ahold of. He stomps forward and shoves his thunderbelcher against its body. "Kira! Hold still, lassie!" he growls. He bares his teeth in a furious snarl as he turns all his dwarven fury on the infernal beastie. "Go back tae hell, ye bastard!" he snarls, pulling back on the trigger. CHK-BOOM! BOOM! The fire that's in Andelena's eyes goes out. The Sunguard is still for just a second.
And then a grin spreads wide on her face. The longsword swipes out at Dolan like a snake lashing out, but the steel doesn't bite; the sword goes too wide.
A chuckle flirts out of Andelena's mouth. "I /love/ being surrounded by handsome men that I can kill," she croons, a voice that's very low coming out of her mouth.

Kira can feel the lack of the thing in her hands. Good. That means it is no longer around to threaten anyone. "Thank you," she is grateful to Dirk, first, then looks back towards Zyla and the miners. Or at least her best guess.
"Yes, it's time for us to get everyone out. How many are you? Is anyone injured? Can everyone move alright? We'll need to wade through some water, but it isn't far." She can't exactly triage or examine anyone, but isn't about to drag invalids through water without knowing.
Dolan ducks swiftly, eyes wide, but instead of rounding on Andelena, he turns to face where he thinks the demon is, the leather harness for the sword swiftly cast aside onto the bank. Instead of striking in anger, though, he brings the blade to his face, closing his flesh eye, the gentle sunlit glow of the ring on his hand that began with his spell reflected in the remaining gem-like prosthetic.
"Holy Sunlord, guide my sword that I may shield Your faithful in their need."
He looks up, his flesh eye blinking, and suddenly his features twist in fury. "The light of Daeus be your bane, spawn of the Hells!" The blade lashes out, striking true - and yet passing through nothing.
Telamon's eyes narrow. "It's inside Andelena, Dolan! Watch it!" He takes the mana in both hands, corposant crackling up and down his fingers and his eyes glowing, his hair starting to float around his head. "Emegar, sag dar!" When nothing happens, he grits his teeth. "Get -out- of her, fiend, or I promise I will be very careful to -not- kill you."
Zyla cocks her head to the side. "If I go back through the water and find a good place on the other side with space that I can memorize, I could swim back and then take a few back. Or just see if Mister Magic over there can just come over and teleport them all? He can do that can't he?"

The sly grin on Andelena's face widens, the steel-grey eyes that are so uncharacteristically cold turning in Telamon's direction. "Careful not to kill me?" she mocks as she steps toward him, raising the Sunguard's sword in a manner that it should never be used. Deliverance writhes in her grasp.
Not even a strike from the Redeemer stops her in her mission. "It's better for flowers to die when they're in full bloom," she hisses as she strikes at Telamon.

"Baby, forgive me for this. This is the quickest way to chase it out," Dolan mutters, and reverses the blade, taking the opening she leaves to strike back at her. This is where the nature of the spell on the ring becomes clear - as the blade bites, a wound appears on her, but the same wound appears on him, and neither is as deep as it should be. It doesn't seem to overly trouble him, and when he turns away to face Telamon, he turns as well. "Oh, no, chickenfucker, in Daeus' holy name, you'll face me with the Sunlord at my back," he snarls. "Let Your light shine through my blade, and together shall we drive the evil from Your servant!"
Has he lost his mind? Maybe, but he dives back towards the possessed Andelena.
Kira leaves the tying to Dirk as he can see what he's doing. Once everyone seems ready, she escorts along with into the water. "You'll all be out and warm soon," she assures. The water is cold, but its the best way out. Perhaps the only. "Just keep moving." Keeping together is easy thanks to Dirk's quick thinking.
Telamon falls back, barking out a curse as Deliverance jabs into the meat of his thigh. "Like you'd know what flowers were, you bodiless freak," he sneers. "All you're doing is delaying the inevitable." His fingers weave a pattern, and he says, "Irhandi, paphal kalag." Then Telamon's form wavers, like a reflection in a pool that's been disturbed... fading away, the last thing visible are his eyes before they vanish too.

The Redeemer's prayers seem to work. The fire returns to Andelena's gray eyes, and she roars as the demon sloughs out of her--a terrible collection of claws and teeth.

When the demon finally shows itself, Dolan's grin goes feral, and if anything, broadens. It's really not a look one would want to be on the other end of, especially not on his mangled face. "There you are. Little shit," he purrs. "Now I know where you are. Now, by the hand of the holy Sunlord, you die." There's something dangerous in the words.
Indeed, something seems to be guiding him, because for a moment, it looks like the massive blade, sunlit and reflecting the sheen of the ring on his finger, is going to miss, find nothing. And then.- it does. A flash then of sunlight, and a bodiless wail of frustration echoes across the stone.
The demon is no more.
Immediately, he turns to Andelena. "Damn it, baby, I'm sorry. No other way. Think I hurt him worse than you. You all right?"
A moment later, the other half of your party, and the five miners that they rescued pop up from the water gasping for breath and stumbling from the cold.
A long moment, then Telamon's voice comes from thin air. "Well... that sucked." Then there's a shimmer as he seems to appear as if surfacing from deep water, eyes still glowing softly from the truesight spell. "Could've been worse though." He looks sympathetically at Dolan and Andie, who are probably NOT happy after that little jaunt, then he turns his head to see the rest of the party, and the miners, coming out. "Thank the gods!" he bursts out, his face lighting up in a smile.
It doesn't take very long at all. Andelena embraces Dolan tightly, her armored hand going to the back of his head in an affectionate gesture. "No, no, don't be sorry, Bry," she says softly. "I'm fine now. I was trying so hard to get that fucking /thing/ out of my head. You helped me knock it out when you went for me."
She plants a kiss on Dolan's lips--a brief one, because they are still in the middle of a mine with people to save, but it's a kiss of gratitude nonetheless. "Gods, Bry. I'm... I fucking love you. Thank you."
Andelena lets go of him and looks back at the others as they approach. "Are we all right? More or less? Roughly speaking?" She sighs deeply. "I'm ready to get the /fuck/ out of here."
Kira helps any straggling miners out of the the water. It's still cold in the mine, but not as frigid as the mine water. With their safety more assured, she spares some attention to the others, looking Telamon, then Andelena and Dolan... in time to then politely look elsewhere a moment, cheeks reddening from the .. cold. "Is everyone alright?"
Hugs with large swords in hand and a rope around your waist, especially when it is being pulled on and jerked about as the miners clamber out of the water one by one, is a hard thing to deal with, but Dolan leans his head briefly against Andelena's shoulder. "I love you too baby." He returns the peck-kiss, but turns to face those returning, and spreads his stance to brace those still coming out. The rope is tied to him, and he has no cloak and is quite shivering, because the cloak is stuffed in the water hole. "Are you all right? I've got one more thing to do."
Again, he brings the two-handed sword to his face, and this time leans his head on it, closing his flesh eye in a pose that has heartfelt gratitude and no little amount of awe written through it.
Dirk rises out of the water with a mighty whooshing, sloshing and squelching as he trundles back onto the drier part of the cave. "We got 'em!" he says. "There was one o' those nasty demon beasties in there with 'em, but I put one right between its beady wee little eyes!" He holsters his thunderbelcher on his back-holster so he can set to work wringing out his beard. "We've got tae get out o' here, out o' these wet things, an' in front of a fire, ay-sap!" He looks around at the others right as Andalena and Dolan have their moment. "Oh! Guess that means we won! Har! Chalk up another fer the good guys!"
