Corra: Dark Skinned woman in studded leather

Dylan: A male wild elf with red-brown hair.

Pavel: Pale Khazad wearing shades and a wide-brimmed hat.

Corra has disconnected.

You were all hired from the Guild to explore a mine up in the mountains which was reportedly haunted, but when you arrived you found one lone woman faking ghost sounds to scare people away, and no danger. You got the standard pay (pretty small without the danger bonus) and are heading back towards Alexandria when you hear running feet around a corner of the road and a small group of humans come roud the bend, clearly jogging because they are too winded to run any faster. They pull to a stop at the sight of you but then one woman stps out of the group (it looks to be mostly children of various ages) and addresses you. "Greetings, travellers, just let me..." She pants for a few seconds and collects herself. "Greetings. I assure you we have nothing worth robbing." Indeed they all look unarmed, and are all watching you warily. Well, all but the ones who have collapsed now that they have stopped running.

Dylan looks immediately concerned and raises his hands in a gesture of peace. "It's ok, we're with the Guild. We're not here to rob you." He nods up the path they just came from and asks, "But what are you running from? Something sure has you all spooked."

Pavel doesn't seem particularly annoyed by the lack of ghost killing in the mine, though with the sun still up, he has switched out his minotaur helmet for a large wide brimmed hat and a pair of smoked lens spectacles. The insinuation that he is a robber does seem to get to the khazad and he huffs out in broken tradespeak, "Not robbers. Mercenaries."

The woman having caught her breath looks relieved. "Oh, it's terrible. I run a summer camp for children up here in the mountains, you may have heard of it, Delta's Dawnbright Retreat. Usually everything is quiet and we go about the daily chores away from the hassle of city life, but recently we've been seeing signs of intruders into the stockade. Yesterday I sent off one of the councilors to town for reinforcements but didn't hear back, and then last night came the kobolds! Lots of kobolds!" 

One of the girls, perhaps 5, breaks in and holds out both hands. "This many! I counted!"

Delta continues. "Indeed, about a dozen I think, but far bolder than any I've seen before and without weapons! They took over the camp and locked us into the cabins! This morning when most of them went to sleep I slipped out with these, about half my charges, and we're on our way to get help. Can you help, brave adventurers?"

Dylan blinks, openly surprised. "Good lord, those are some bold kobolds. But... no weapons you say?" It's not that Dylan doesn't believe the claim, he's just confused. He looks back round at his colleagues and shrugs. "I don't think I've ever seen a kobold without a spear, or knife or something." He waves his hand to dismiss the thought and nods at the woman. "Nevermind, of course! Of course we can help." He turns back to the others and asks, "Right guys?"

Pavel normally wouldn't go for charity work, but kobold killing is a whole different matter. Especially after the little bastards ambushed him in that canyon. "Breed like cave rats. Come we will kill many kobold." The dorf grumbles, intent to butcher some reptilian little dragonoids as much he butchers the common tongue.

Delta thinks. "Well, some of thm had these claw things strapped to their hands, but their leader just leapt up and kicked poor Doris in the belly and she collapsed and the rest swarmed her! She was in charg of defense, her mother is in the Alexandria guard so she knows how to swing a sword. It really didn't help." She seems upset at the thought of what happened and one of the smaller kids starts crying. "It's a little ways back along the road, then turn left at the sign for Delta's Dawnbridge Retreat, you can't miss it. It's not that far along, a stockade and several buildings. If you hurry you can probably get there before dark."

Dylan nods eagerly, and takes a moment to rest a reassuring hand on Delta's shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll clear them out. It won't matter /how/ they fight when we're done with them." He removes the bow from across his back and pops open the cap on his quiver of arrows as he starts up the path, slowing just enough to watch for his companions joining him.

The kobolds spot you on the trail and start shouting, running forward. "Watch out! There are tallfolk at the gate! warn Gurg! Waaaargh!" They run right up to you all, you can see they have blades strapped to their forearms instead of the more normal spears and such, but they seem used to them and they do look sharp. <draconic>

Corra spies the kobolds attacking the stockade and doesn't waste a moment. She pulls two arrows and looses them in rapid succession. The first takes a kobold in the neck, dropping it, while that leaves the second to fly clear as its target just fell.

The kobolds spot you on the trail and start shouting, running forward. "Watch out! There are tallfolk at the gate! warn Gurg! Waaaargh!" They run right up to you all, you can see they have blades strapped to their forearms instead of the more normal spears and such, but they seem used to them and they do look sharp. Three approach Dylan and Pavel, and two swarm Corra. <draconic>

Pavel blinks, surprised by the sight of three kobolds actually bum-rushing him. Even at three to one, he apparently finds it pretty bold. Especially now that he quickly reduces it to 2 to 1, throwing the spear point of his halberd into the throat of one as it closes in, shaking the limp body to ready it again.

Shimmering with the magical protection Dylan cast on himself on their way up the path, he is caught off guard when the kobolds rush them. He still has his bow, but whips his feet up in a flourish, kneeing and then kicking kicking one of the little monsters unconscious.

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Okay, I'll move on and resolve your action when you come back. :)"

More kobolds come flooding out of the camp in response to the shouts until you are all surrounded by short scaly menaces. Only Pavel takes an actual injury but you are all now swarmed.

<OOC> Ssylrath says, "Each of you is pretty much surrounded. I'll allow a flank though. It doesn't help."

Pavel looks even more surprised as of all the thrashing, he is the one to be wounded, one of their tiny blades slipping into one of the creases of his armor plates. Out of frustration, he swings his polearm around, but comes up an inch or two over the kobolds heads.

<OOC> Pavel has to put on some spaghetti real quick. If it comes up my turn and I'm idle, just assume I am stabbing kobolds.

Surrounded as he is, Dylan looks like he's trying to focus for another spell, but he can't manage to get his thoughts straightened out to pull it off. He sighs and drops back into a ready stance to defend himself as best he can.

Corra blinks as the kobolds rush up to her. She has her ancestral weapon in her hand, her mighty composite longbow and an arrow in the other as she gets swarmed by kobolds, first it is just two and before they even can do anything she hops back a half step and puts an arrow through each of them, felling them where they stand, but then two more swarm and they try to hit her but it isn't very successful. She grins, "Hi, big mistake" she says and the pulls another arrow, she gets struck at again as she makes herself ready and downs another with an arrow through the neck.

The kobolds swarm around Pavel and Dylan, one taking a halberd in the throat and expiring messily while Dylan manages to throw off the grabbing hands. Corra gets stabbed however with one of the wird armblade things. There are now six attacking Corra, four on Dylan and three on Pavel.

The khazad, now motivated by the pain in his side from the little kobold puncture and now the lot of them trying to get their filthy scaley hands on his birthright armor, shakes the second dead kobold off of his halberd's spear point and goes with another swing of the axe. Low this time, and that works out much better, shearing the thin reptilian legs off one of his attackers. Pavel silences his screams by stomping on his head with a hob-nailed boot.

Bobbing and weaving, weaving and bobbing. Dylan is quick, but he's also surrounded. Finally he finds a sliver of an opening and dives through it. Several of them take swipes at him as he goes, but none of them can catch him. In the open again, he flexes his free hand and makes the incantation to call up an additional layer of protection before settling back into his familiar fighting stance.

Corra doesn't like the fact that she is getting swarmed and by the greater number. Six surround her and she decides to improve her odds a bit. She hops back a bit and while barely avoiding some shots from the kobolds she looses two arrows and two kobolds drop, pierced by her shots, then there were four remaining..on her.

The kobolds swarm over Corra, hampering her actions severely, while others stab at Dylan and Pavel to no avail.

Probably shouldn't have stepped on the kobold head. It looked menacing, sure, but kob-brains are slippery. Enough to throw Pavel's stance off as he brings his polearm to bear and drive the bloody spike into the belly of another attacker. "NNgh." The dwarf grumples in the universal language of frustation.

Like a snake, Dylan slips through the horde of kobolds to come up at Corra's side. He tries to land a kick at one of them holding on to her, but misses for fear of hurting her as well. Yeah, that's why.

Corra manages to throw the kobolds off of her for the moment at least and tries to figure out what she is going to do next.

As the kobolds scramble through the slightly ajar gate they vanish from view and everything grows quiet. Too quiet. You can faintly hear the sounds of kobolds still running on the far side of the gate but nothing else, no sounds of camp life or released campers or anything. What will you do next?

Dylan sighs as his shield spell sputters and goes out. "Hell," he says, taking a step towards the gate. "They'll be some kinda pain ferreting out of a place like this. Then again..." He tilts his head and nods to himself. "There was something familiar about their fighting style. I bet... I bet they had a leader here somewhere. Someone who... if we took /him/ out, they'd scatter for good. Just a guess, but it might work."

Pavel grunts as he pulls his halberd free from the mangled corpse of the kobold killed last, taking care to wipe the blood clean with an old rag from his pouch. From another pouch, he produces a bundle of what appears to be ground herbs and the husk of a dead albino cricket of some alien variety seen far below the surface. He pops both into his mouth and gives them several thoughtful chews before he spits the disgusting mess into one palm and begins to pack the nick in his side with the mixture. "Follow and kill? They breed up more, be back in half year with more."

Corra picks up her scimitar and sheathes it and then shakes her head a bit, "Just want to cclear it out and call it good."

Slipping through the gate you all stand at one end of the main open area of the camp with several cabins scattered around the edges and a larger lodge at the far end. Everything is quiet and still except for the single kobold standing in the middle of the open area, about 60' away. It is dressed in a white robe belted with a blood red belt, and around its head is a white headband with a symbol over the forehead. None of you can make it out from here. The kobold takes a fighting stance, completely unarmed, and then gestures for you to attack with one hand.

"There is one. Let us kill it and be done." Pavel growls in his broken tradespeak. The halberd is stabbed into the ground, no need to dirty it up with more kobold blood, so he thinks. The khazard moves forward slowly, pulling the compact crossbow off of his hip and taking a pot shot that the kobold sidesteps. "Nngh." Is Pavel's response and he dumps the crossbow as well, hand going for the hammer at his waist.

Pavel is fairly easy to manipulate, especially if your goal is to attack. The plate-wearing khazad warrior runs forward again, pulling his hammer free and taking a downward swing, which is easily avoided by the kobold monk.

Pavel snaps out of his concussed state and grabs the kobold in front of him by the shoulders and plants a spiked knee right into it's gut, lifting the 30 lb lizard bastard off the ground with the hit.

Both kobolds keep trying to drop the Dwarven warrior, anding glancing blows. The one in the red belt is looking worried now, bleeding heavily, and starts backing up.

Pavel has cracked ribs, a swollen shut eye, a stab wound, and a concussion. He has had just about enough. Letting the other kobold land a punch that is absorbed by his dwarven plate mail, he scoops up his hammer and uses both hands to swing it down after two purposeful steps. The end result is the kobold's skull being caved in. The dwarf whirls his broad frame around, blood and brain in his beard and announces, "I kill you now." to the other kobold.

The last remaining kobold looks at Pavel and at the crumpled red-belt. "Now the student is the master! I just have to kill you all first!" He bounds over to the lighter-armored Dylan and swings but is foiled by the magial defenses. <draconic>

Dylan accepts the other monk's attack calmly, and composed. More so than before, at least. He easily avoids the attack, and then focuses himself for a stunning blow of his own. The punch hums in the air but he's blocked and the chi energy dissipates harmlessly.

The second kobold was just starting to look for escape routes when Corra again fires two arrows at him. This time the first was just a distraction as the second enters through one eye and bursts out the back of his head in a spray of gore. He wavers and collapses. All is quiet.

GAME: You remove the timestop.

Dylan flinches as he's sprayed with gore, but then brightens when he realizes the kobolds are dead. "Well done! We got them!"

Pavel grunts as he's showered with gore. Again. The arrowed kobold gets a few boots in the ribs for good measure, or at least to relent the remaining frustration from getting his ass beat silly by kobolds. "We tell no one of this."

Searching the camp you find the rest of the kids and two more caretakers barricaded inside one cabin. They start pelting you with random objects until they realize you are the rescue party, after which they are very grateful.
