Cesran is walking through the Arena District and he has his staff with him. Ral-sara wrinkles her nose, "It always stinks here, like old BO and stale beer." Cesran chuckles and shhhs his staff as she gets some looks. "I had a delivery to make, you know belts of strength are popular items."

Speaking of, an oruch decked out in magical items, some shiny and new, some less so, comes around the corner. Gragnar has been absent from the adventuring scene for a while, but seems to be strutting his stuff in his new duds, a pair of robes cut for easy, unrestricted movement. He seems at home in the district, partly because their smells match so well.

Ral-sara coughs a little bit as Gragnar comes around the corner, "Ugh...did someone kill a skunk?" The staff complains and Cesran shushes her and taps the end of the staff on the ground, "Ral-sara you don't even have a sense of smell..." The staff rolls her eyes and ughs, "Yes I do, although I wish I hadn't." Cesran shakes his head a little bit. "Next you will want to really get married."

Gragnar stops, glancing at Cesran and the staff. He squints, coming closer. He lets out a hearty laugh. "Aha! I've hearda dis. It's... uh..." He frowns. "Ventrilo... Yeah, Ventrilo!" He smiles proudly at (incorrectly) remembering the word, showing his broken tusk. "Voice-throwin'"

Cesran turns towards Gragnar, "Uh oh." Ral-sara's head turns towards Gragnar, 'What did you say? I am not some trick or some act you smelly piece of..." "Ral-sara! That's enough." Cesran says as he gives the staff another tap on the ground. He smiles at Gragnar, "I'm sorry for her outburst, she's rather opinionated, but she's not some trick of ventriloquism. She is a living and sentient staff."

Gragnar laughs a bit, but when Cesran explains that it's not a trick, he stops, and leans in, considering the staff. "Huh," he says, and leans back, scratching his cheek. "Dey make dose?" he wonders. "Ain't dat sumthin'." He seems to finish considering, and turns back to Cesran. "You have a very rude staff. If it had arms, I'd challenge it ta a fight."

It's right about now that Fiore steps out of the fire lodge, finishing up a tankard and handing it back to the barkeep inside of the bar. "Yeah yeah. You know I'm good for it." The ridiculously tall woman says as she stands up to her full height. Many people step out of her way, but she seems to be more wary of them, than they are of her.

Ral-sara's dragon head leans on and she blows her breath at Gragnar, "Boo!" She laughs as Cesran lets out a sigh and shakes his head. "Yes it's rather difficult, but it's well worth it. Most of the time." He chuckles a bit, "Trust me it's not worth it. I couldn't let you fight her she is my staff under my care." He reaches up to pinch Ral-sara's muzzle shut before she can stick out her tongue. The staff's head wiggles a little bit trying to get free before Cesran lets her go, "Be good." He looks over at Fiore as she comes out as she's hard to miss.

Gragnar glances to Fiore, raising a broad hand in greeting, then turns his attention back to the staff. "Seen the real thing," he lies. "A dragon head made out o' wood don't scare me." He turns back to Cesran. "I won't break your staff just because /it's/ being' rude."

Hearing the commotion, Fiore walks over and kneels down to look at the staff. "I've always wondered something about talking staffs. If you twirl them around enough, do they puke? And if they do? Do they puke wood chips?"

Cesran nods, "Well the dragon head is made out of some rare crystal, the wood is living darkwood, thus giving her sentience along with some magical spells I laid until the staff when I created it. It's the tradition of where I was trained that when a wizard reaches a certain level of power they construct their own staff, the rarer the materials used to make it and the more difficult it is to get them the more prestige you bring yourself." He laughs, "No she just complains loudly."

Gragnar considers, scratching his cheek a bit more, much of the talk about magical staffcraft going straight over his head, and he doesn't seem inclined to reach for it. His ignorance, while not exactly cherished, is comfortable. "Don't have much control over personality, huh?" he wonders.

Fiore says, "I dunno. You should let me twirl it around for a while, then hold it over a mulch pile to see if it pukes up wood chips." She then chuckles a bit. "I also notice it's not talking any more. maybe my thought rings true." She says poking the staff playfully."

Cesran shakes his head, "No much like children you can't control their personality only hope to guide it." He says as he gives he back of Ral-sara's head a gentle rub. The staff huffs, "No, I just choose not to speak sometimes. I don't eat so I can't puke."

Gragnar chuckles a bit. "You said it's a requirement of an orda? Lookin' ta get into one myself."

Fiore tilts her head at Gragnar. "What order are you looking to get into?" She says softly to Gragnar, before she looks to the staff. "ah well."

Cesran smiles, "Not an order, a school, the academy of sages. In the Jade Islands the academy is still strong, unlike here were they have been replaced by the Society of Progress Arcanists."

"Orda of Righteous Battle," Gragnar says, making a fist in front of his face, grinning. "It's a monk order of Angoron."

Fiore says, "Looking for someone to recruit you into the order, or something?" She says to Gragnar.

Cesran nods, "Well I know there are plenty of them around here, they are pretty popular. I'm sure if you hang around here there is someone that can help you, maybe go check out the arena."

"Ya know someone?" Gragnar wonders. "Well, ah spend enough time here. I just sorta recently found out dere was even an order for dat kinda thing."

Fiore smiles to Cesran, but then looks to Gragnar.....turning to her side. "Or you could just ask me." She says showing her left shoulder. The Maul of Angoron

Gragnar double-takes at that, and beams, clapping Fiore on the shoulder. "Ahah! Excellent. IS there some test?" he wonders.

Cesran nods, "Or you could ask her." He asks as he leans on his staff. "See I told you if you hung out around here you'd find someone."

Fiore shaks head head. "Devote yourself to Angoron, fight honorably and in the spirit of Angoron.....and to protect the innocent and those weaker than yourself. That is all."

Gragnar laughs at that, beaming. "Easy!" he declares, crossing his arms across his chest. "I already have been. The monk who visited my tribe was a follower of Angoron, I learned from him."

Fiore smiles. "There ya go." She says clapping him on the shoulder with her left hand. "Then you have nothing to worry about."

Cesran aws a little bit, "It's that simple huh? I was hoping I'd get to see some hazing." He says teasingly.

Gragnar laughs a little, clapping Cesran on the shoulder. "Ask any of my adventurin' companions, they can vouch for me."

Fiore chuckles a bit. "There is no hazing. No need for hazing. We will mess up and do silly things to each other all the time. I imagine you might have a few question though."

Cesran nods, 'I suppose I can vouch for you, if not the adventure's guild can."

Gragnar considers the question of questions for a moment. "Are there specific rules ta follow? Conditions?" he wonders.

Fiore says, "Don't kill unless you absolutely have to, and they give you no other choice. Use every advantage you possibly can in fighting. If there are rules, do not break them. A battle is as much mental as it is physical." She then smiles and brings her fist in front of her face. "but my own personal rule......."bullies will learn that there is always someone bigger, stronger, smarter.....and more dangerous.""

Cesran nods, "Good rules to live by in any case whether you are part of the order or not."

Fiore points to Cesran. "Definitely. And order is what all monks live by."

Gragnar considers the rule against killing, nodding, but smiles the more the girl talks. He makes a similar gesture to Fiore with his fist. "An punish cheaters," he says with an almost wicked grin.

Fiore says, "Bullies are the same as cheaters."

Fiore adds. "I am Fiore, of the Order of Righteous Battle." She doesn't hold out her hand.....but holds out her fist.

Cesran nods, "And I am Cesran and this is my staff Ral-sara." The staff nods politely, "It is a good code. How come you don't have one Cesran?" The wizard hmms, "I do, it's just to try to do good."

Gragnar mirrors the gesture. "Gragnar, of the Broken Tusk."

Fiore chuckles. "Welcome, Gragnar, to the order." She then looks down....way down, to Cesran. "and toothpick. You looks small enough to be one." She says looking to Ral-sara. She then chuckles. "Sorry Ral-Sara. And greetings to you, Cesran."

Gragnar beams. "May we meet next in the arena." That item off his checklist, he nods politely to them both and, taking a look around, heads to the bar Fiore just left, raising a hand as he goes to celebrate a personal victory.

Cesran waves to Gragnar, "See you later, if you ever need any magical items come find me." Ral-sara huffs a bit, but she does reply, "It's nice to meet you too." Cesran nods his own greeting, "Thank you and yes it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Craft:

"-and she normally would, yes, but the sass-mouth was too much yesterday." Remethaer crouches beneath the cover of a simple tarp windbreak tethered at a slant from tree branch and staked into the ground. A loose formation of similar structures dot a section of the park where pathfinders, scouts, and airshipmen practice several skills in the day's harsh weather. Equipment is broken down and reassembled, fires are made and smothered, armor is patched or donned in haste-- the sort of thing spurred on by occasional shouting and shoving from senior military men.

In the Xian's case, he's simply visiting and a rail-thin Aesir-- skin dark as walnut with shock white hair-- is seeing to a longrifle. The weapon is all but completely taken to pieces and the long, calloused fingers of the experienced soldier dance over the assorted parts to inspect, clean, polish, and align. The Aesir's works from behind a blindfold. He's probably just showing off. Remy doesn't bother to hide his fascination with the process.

Craft and the dog are out for a walk, the large figure having all but completely covered himself in a water-tight tarp, making it difficult at first to recognize the Golem for what he is. The dog, however, has no such covering, subjecting those with noses to the scent of wet dog as he plays in the rain, staying remarkably clear of anyone currently involved in some assembly/donning process. He's more distracting than actively disruptive. Craft stops near the Aesir, watching curiously with luminescent eyes.

"You should see if they have a medal. A badge, perhaps. At least a plaque." Remethaer jokes, doing his best not to sound impressed. A low fire-- little more than embers, really-- burns near the soldier and he occasionally stops to warm a piece or his hands before returning to work. "Mum would be impressed and then wonder why her son couldn't manage such a feat," he adds with a sniff. At Craft's arrival the Xian trails off and gives a little sniff and a nod.

"Hunter's steps," Remethaer greets with a lopsided grin. "Wonderful weather, yes?"

Craft doesn't visibly respond to the blessing, staying quiet and still for a moment. "Poor weather for steel," he says, voice having a metallic ring to it. "Require extensive cleaning and oiling to stave off rust." He looks again to the weapon, torn between watching someone properly care for their weapon and them choosing to do it in weather like this, rather than indoors, or at least in a properly waterproofed area.

Remethaer bobs his head once and pulls the hood of his duffel coat up and over his head before standing up and out from under the tarp. "'We do it in the rain, snow, and sleet-- Rada doesn't whisper summer's breeze just because your gear's gone to shite.'" The Aesir grunts when Remy finishes the recital. "See. I still remember a thing or two," he adds with a wave while the other continues to work uninterrupted.

Considering Craft a moment longer than might be considered polite, Remy gives a shrug with his hands shoved deep down into the coat pockets. "Lasota here is the best in his unit at this sort of thing. If he had twine he'd tie his fingers together to try and make it even harder, forgeman. A sort of artist, you might say." He gives a 'heh' and stubs his toe lightly against the half-frozen earth. "Once I get a spell into the thing I hope to have fewer bloody problems, anyway."

"Magic can help," Craft agrees, considering the gear. "He should do it quickly and get his weapon out of the wet, it will thank him for it," he says, and turns his head to check for the dog, revealing a squared jaw made of dark metal beneath his hood. "I do not understand the desire to 'show off.'"

"The rifle is mine," Remethaer corrects evenly, offering another half-laugh and a shrug. "It siezed up on me during a job and I needed it looked at. Lasota is doing me a proper favor-- but he can't leave his post. Once the work is done it'll be back in its sock. All warm and safe. The concern is appreciated," he nods again beneath his hood, smiling.

Craft considers this, giving a nod. "A proper smith could have taken a look at it for you as well," he says, a glimpse of an apron visible beneath the tarp of a cloak. "But, in the end, it is your weapon."

"S'truth." Remethaer agrees once or twice, pushing his hands a little deeper into his pockets against the cold. "But it's not often I have a chance to catch up with friends." The Aesir gives a muffled snort. "I enjoy it even if it's warmer inside a smithy's." And this way is likely cheaper (if not free). "Remethaer," he offers after a pause, adding "Zhao."

"Craft," the golem responds, offering a tridactyl metal hand, covered in a dark metal that can only be adamantine.

"Aah," Remethaer catches on, taking the hand and giving it a shake. All five of his fingers are in a furlined glove thanks to the weather. "You're the forgeman with the shop-- I thought I recognized you. My father runs Zhao Textile Imports," he cants his head to the north. "We're practically neighbors if I remember right."

Craft considers the label for a moment, and nods. "Yes. Craft's Crafts. I'm aware of your father's shop." Considering his idea of casual wear appears to be fullplate and a tarp, he's probably not a customer, though. The golem looks around, and, with the sound of metal on metal, calls the dog over to him with a tap on his thigh.[[Category:Logs]]

Roleplay is central to Tenebrae, and consists of a mix of scenes, grid, and PrPs. Here you may read some of the logs our players have posted, or wanted to share. This page may also be used to post logs for PrPs, to share an item for staff review, or to tell players about a great scene. Remember too, if you're RPing in a public area, a log may end up on this site. Most recent logs are at the '''bottom.'''

Gragnar comes walking out of the Ox, still carrying a roasted... bird of some sort, eating it messily but eagerly as he uses his teeth to strip the flesh from bone. He looks around for a moment, looking as if he's looking to pick his next destination based on nothing but passing fancy.

Walking about the warehouse district is someone quite new. Dressed in robes, the woman looks kinda lost in the warehouse district, but otherwise seems fine. She tries to keep out of people's way, but sometimes has to really move quickly to do so. She does bump into Gragnar once though, mumbling a 'scuse me' on the way by.
The woman has poultry grease dripped onto her as Gragnar is jostled. The large Oruch looks down, raising an eyebrow. "Ya lost?" he asks, getting the last of the meat off the bird before tossing what's left into the gutter for the vermin.

Elycia says, "Sort of, sir." She says looking at her arm where the grease is. "I'm just trying to get out of this area and......find myself going in circles. Can you help?" She says ducking under a tossed box."

Gragnar considers that for a moment, and looks around. "Ya mean da warehouse district?" he asks, and notices her flinching away, shaking his head. "Come on," he says, waving for her to follow him, his large, green skinned frame breaking the flow of traffic far better than she had been managing as he starts heading down the street. "Where ya tryin' ta get?"

Elycia follows closely behind him. "Just trying to find my way back to the tavern near here. I was staying there for a while until I got my bearings around here."

Gragnar freezes in place, and turns around. "Da Ox?" he asks. "Ya were looking for da Ox?" he repeats, looking towards the building he'd just stepped out of when she bumped into him.

Elycia says, "Yeah, that's the one." She says with a chuckle. A crowd came through here and I got lost. She then rubs her face."

"Ya... don't find your way around too gud, do ya?" Gragnar wonders, considering the figure.

Elycia says, "Not yet. I just got here only a few days ago and.....well, like I said, I'm still trying to learn my way around here." She says before looking up and seeing the Ox strength tavern. "Annnnd....I feel silly.""

Gragnar nods is head once, slowly. "Ya been drinkin'?" he wonders.

Elycia Shakes her head. "No. I haven't had more than a sip of the drink......"

Gragnar pats Elycia on the head. "Maybe ya should start," he suggests, leading her the few steps back towards the Ox.

Elycia says, "I don't think drinking would get me to navigate Alexandria better, green one." She says before trotting her way back into the Ox."

"Might give ya a betta excuse than not lookin' up, though," Gragnar says, seeming intent to make sure she makes it all the way through the door before trusting her to her own devices. "Sides, I navigate jus' fine when I've been drinkin."

Elycia says, "Heh. After a few sips, I get a little.....loopy." She says softly as she heads for the bar. "Besides, you're not supposed to have more than a sip if you were initially a poison taster.""

Grangar laughs a little at that. Someone close enough to the door to hear remarks. "Oop, the Oruch found himself a challenge." "Maybe ya were just doin' it wrong," Gragnar says, something of a joke to it.

Elycia raises an eyebrow at the comment, but she still orders a tea. She then holds out a hand....and a bowl of nuts slides to her hand.

Gragnar scoffs at the tea. "Well, good luck findin' places," he says, raising a hand to wave to the woman. "An' don't forget ta look up." He heads for the door, then.

Elycia waves to Gragnar. "Thank you, Mister green skin. And I'll make sure to look up next time."
The freshness of the river cuts through this section of Alexandria. Its broad expanse sparkles beneath the sun, its surface dotted with ships and barges. The vehicles move slowly over the water, their sails colorful and proud. Most bear a nod to Rada, or three, for luck's sake. Others bear the colors of different nations and city-states, all of them coming here to bring trade to Alexandria.

Warehouses line the streets, dotted with the names of shipping companies and various industries. These, mixed with the occasional sailor's tavern, set the tone for the area. Overall, it's bustling, busy, about what one would expect for a city of this size.

Craft: Mikilos and Craft encounter one another in the early morning, and speak of recycling, ethics, and business.

Mikilos hums absently to himself, moving thru the night marketplace to a closed up shack, a small cart of supplies trundling noisily behind him. Propping up the front shutter with a stick, the elf murmurs a brief incantation, lighting up the empty shelves inside.

Craft is out for an evening stroll of his own, though he's accompanied by the wolfish hound. Judging by the intensive sniffing everything's getting, the trip seems to be the idea of the quadruped. Craft turns at the sound of the cart, and moves closer to Mikilos at the lights.

Mikilos takes the cover off the cart, and begins to display a range of simple works, ranging from blade and bows, to a few jewelry pieces, a a couple of simple clockwork devices. There's some small level of organization to the collection of curiosities, but it's mostly wherever there happens to be room upon the crude shelves.

"Odd time to be setting up shop," Craft says. When the unsleeping construct questions your business hours, it's freaking late.

Mikilos turns, quirking a brow, and smiles upon spying the speaker. "No odder a time than for taking a walk. Have a commission finished, and the customer cared to meet in the market. Figured might as well set up for the morning so long as I'm here. How have you been? Haven't seen you around for a while."

"I was securing supply routes," Craft explains. He nods his head towards the dog. "They make a mess if I keep them inside too long," he explains. He briefly considers the wares, leaning in to get a better look at the clockwork devices, a brief shimmer to his goggles that could have easily been oddly reflected light from Mikilos' own spell.

The clockworks are simple in design, though well made. A wind-up mechanical timer, a couple of simple toys, and a few parts to larger devices, their exact purpose difficult to guess at a mere look.

Mikilos nods, one brow raising in mild curiosity. "What sort of supplies?" The elf crouches down, offering a hand to the dog. The wizard is really more of a cat person, but has nothing against canines.

The dog sniffs at Mikilos's hand, giving it a lick, waving his tail in a good natured manner, letting out a single bark. "Smithing, primarily. Some of the merchant families were trying to raise the price on iron. Surprisingly few smiths speak Goblin. Also, I can say from experience that the influx of adventurers is not greatly increasing the demand for iron, as they claim," he explains. Someone sent the Kulthian abomination to be diplomatic. The smiths must have been desperate.

Mikilos nods absently. "Weapons are a drain on the iron supply, certainly, but nothing compared to the industrial use. Any idea on why the raise? Just a craving for additional profits?"

"And the more experienced adventurers prefer other materials to iron," Craft remarks, a pointed gesture to the adamantine of his armor and weapon. "Part of it. There actually was some supply issues, but nothing justifying the price they wanted to charge. I suggested a potential solution, however. Scrap. Weapons break, tools bend. Reforging from scrap isn't any easier, but on the scale they'd be doing it, if they could get their customers to set aside scrap..."

Mikilos nods. "The actual forging, no, but the smelting section goes quite easier from scrap. I've long pondering making a large scale scrap smelter with an automated processing system, but I haven't yet the resources."

"You'd need to do it at considerable scale," Craft says. "No one smith has enough scrap to make it worthwhile. You'd need to institute the program on a city-wide scale to turn profits. If the smelter goes idle, it will need to be allowed to cool, but if it cools then you lose time warming it back up, and if you keep it hot while not in use you're wasting fuel. It would need to run continuously for proper efficiency."

Mikilos nods. "Magical fire eliminates a lot of the downtime. Though of course brings it's own problems. I'm mostly thinking a semi-mobile unit for ruins and wrecks. A crashed airship, for example."

Craft goes quiet for a moment at this, perfectly still while the canine goes and hikes a leg on a neighboring cart. "It could be useful for smelting adamantine from the ruins, but the cost benefit ratio would need some examining. As you said, a manaforge has costs. There's a reason I continue to use traditional methods."

Mikilos nods. "I've taken a look, and the start up expense is high, but I think the eventual payoff would be worthwhile. Especially if an emergency situation arrises. An attack upon the city, part is destroyed. A swift method to productively dispose of the resulting rubble would prove quite useful, I think."

"That would largely be stone," Craft remarks. "Difficult to salvage, generally useless once damaged too much for it's original purpose." He stomps a foot on the street. "Well, nearly."

Mikilos nods. "But far better in neat piles than blocking the street."

"Baring large constructs, however, the best way to move a lot of stone would be manual labor, I believe. It would likely be a question for the dwarves, they've worked with stone far more than I have," Craft says evenly, a glance to the side to keep an eye on his canine companion.

Mikilos nods again. "All fairly much theory at this point anyway. I can make a few simple clockworks," he motions absently towards the display "and summon complex workers for a short time. But complex automations remain beyond my current power."

"I believe the lie beyond everyone's current power," Craft remarks, being such an automaton. "Though I am unsure how I feel about more like myself being created just to move stone. Stick to tools, let the world supply the workers."

Mikilos shakes his head. "Not a self aware golem, just an automation. Such constructs aren't particularly difficult to create. A full war-golem, yes, such technology has been mostly lost. Do I think if had the mind to, I could replicate the process, eventually."

"You're not the first to say that," Craft says, the metal edge to his voice somewhat softened. "Perhaps, someday, someone will begin making new golems. Perhaps not. I still consider it easier to stick to tools. No one argues over a hammer's sentience."

Mikilos snorts softly, and grins. "There's a few exceptions. Are more than a few tales of powerful magical items with minds of their own. Recall one of a dranish maul, which is pretty much a hammer."

"Further complicating matters," Craft agrees with a nod of his head. "I prefer tools of my own making. I do not believe in making slaves of anything."

Mikilos nods in agreement. "Servants, not slaves. Though in such cases the distinction can be difficult. Though no less important."

"Not all that keen on servants either, to be entirely honest," Craft remarks. "I do work for other people, but it is on my own terms, I decided to do this work, and I draw enjoyment from it." Maybe that's why he's never taken an apprentice.

Mikilos nods. "There are those who prefer to be told what to do. Not everyone is suited to be a servant. Trouble arrises when the wrong person gets into the wrong position."

"I prefer to let beings choose their own path... more or less," Craft says. "I've ended the paths of enough that I can't call that an absolute."

Mikilos nods, and sighs. "One of the more difficult parts of being an Adventurer. Wondering what your opponents might have done with themselves had they been redeemed."

"Nothing as good as I have done with their attempts on my life stopped," Craft says, with all the tone of the decision having already been made. He doesn't worry about the killing he's done.

Mikilos nods, and shrugs. "Would be nice to convert foes, rather than slay them. But I agree, far better to slay them then to allow them to slay you."

Craft nods his head, and taps at his shin to get the dog's attention. "I should be going. I will let you continue setting up shop."

Mikilos hrmms, blinks, and nods, having somewhat forgotten what he'd been doing. "Ah, yes, thank you. Have a nice walk. Hope to see you again, perhaps on some Guild business."

"I have been meaning to get back out. I have some new inventions that need field testing," Craft remarks, and raises a hand in parting, turning and walking off.

Mikilos waves as well, and turns back to getting set up for the coming morning.

Craft: Craft begins arranging an expedition. Kerbasy comes along for the ride.

"We're telling you, we haven't been able to /get/ any adamantine," the caravan leader, a bronzed, leather faced man of middle years and thinning hair says across the table. The figure across from his has neither food nor drink, for all that they're meeting in a tavern. The blank-faced, unbreathing figure across from him's only motion is to occasionally check the armor plating between his luminescent eyes with a digit of his tridactyl hand. There's a slight mar there in otherwise pristine armor. "Why?" Craft asks, lowering his hand to the table, his voice metallic, even this single word ringing with a strange resonance. The Kulthian relic looks blankly into the merchant's eyes. It's not a threatening gesture, but to one used to reading customers like a book, and getting to make a annotations here and there, it's a somewhat unnerving one, especially with the golem's reputation as an artificer.

"Evenin'. I ah, see you're kinda busy. Now a bad time?" Kerbasy asks. He smiles like he always does, warm and just this side of twitching, of breaking out into something else. Despite the robes the Mourner wears, energy comes off of him in waves, and is accented in his movements from the twitch of his fingers, to the habitual tugging of an earlobe. He'd been eating in the inn when he saw the caravan leader sit down, and had come over to talk.

The merchant looks up at Kerbasy, his face plumper straight on, auxillary chin wobbling a bit as he looks up. Something with a face he can actually read! Hurray! "Was just explaining to this," a look at the golem that has not moved even a hair's breadth since he last spoke, "gentleman," awkward grin, "that there's been bandit activity preventing us from obtaining adamantine. We have to prioritize, you know, we can't pursue such a niche market at that kind of risk. Where's the profit?"

"Heh. Well, I s'pose I can understand that. It's not found in very nice a place. ...useful, though. Fact is, I'd been kind of hopin' you'd taken it on. We've a Chord or two who've been lookin' for supplies. But if yer not..." the Mourner leaves it trailing, and then glances towards the golem with a partial smile. "Guess I'll have t'go back with th' news."

"If it's bandits, I can provide security," the golem says, "in exchange for the materials I require. I was nearing the end of a project when the shipments ceased. I do not like leaving things unfinished." He turns to Kerbasy, face as blank as always as it looks up and down the priest. "I will bring others, if required," he says, a quiet lilt, an extra ring to the metallic words, along with him looking at Kerbasy as he speaks, seeming to add a question for the young priest.

"You uh...heh." The Mourner Kerbasy rubs nervously at the back of his neck as he talks. Nervously, or it could be raw nerves. HIs fingers twitch as he brings them back to his side, and it's only a moment longer that he tucks his hands into his sleeves.

Needing something for them to do.

"I wouldn't mind a look at it, m'self. That is, if you're willin' to take it on. I've got some time this week, comin' up, if no one dies." And he grins. See, that's a joke, son. It's a joke!

The golem's eyes dim to narrower glows at that, and he turns his head to the merchant. "Well?" he asks. The merchant considers, and looks between the two. "Well, I don't know, I mean, how sure can I be that you two can actually handle bandits? Your armor's real nice and all, but I've seen plenty of boys in nice armor get killed, and," he looks to the Mourner. Bad omen?

The Mourner rubs at the back of his neck again. His fingers press in a quick circle before he drops his hand. "I suppose so. It's a fair question. I work with our Chords, most days. You're welcome t' speak with them about me anytime. Only other witness I can offer y' is my Lady, Herself." His voice evens out as he mentions Her, taking on a warm confidence. And the young priest stands straighter, his robes fit a little better. He's not the world's cleanest priest. There's dirt under his nails, along the hem of his robe. It's from hard work and effort.

His hands twitch again.

He tucks them back into his sleeves.

"What do you know about these bandits?" Craft asks, looking to the merchant. "I was with the group that killed Red Ace," he states, voice growing slightly more metallic at the name, "and he was no common bandit."

Kerbasy turns and looks towards the merchant as Craft asks the question. Evidently he thinks it's a good question, because the Mourner falls silent, his brows raised.

The merchant pales a bit at the name, and considers. "Well, uh... probably not so bad as that, no," he says, secondary chin wobbling a bit in a nervous sort of tick. "I thought he was already dead?" he asks. "He was, then he shot me, now he's deader," the metallic voice intones. Okay, sure, it wasn't Craft that delivered the killing blow, or even really witnessed it, but the merchant doesn't need to know that.

The Mourner smiles somewhat, but it's sad. "Reckon we could give it a go, then. Though if there are undead...are there undead, then?" he asks, and the sad smile stays in place, but the eyes sharpen as he watches the man.

The merchant's chin wobbles as he looks between the two, rubbing at his balding pate. "Uh... no, no, just the normal sort of bandits, I think. With uh... knives, sword, that sorta thing." He doesn't sound so sure, though, and the metal man across from him is increasingly looking like someone he'd want on his side.

"Heh. Well, shouldn't be much of a problem. I'll be glad t'travel with th' group of you. I just need some time to make preparations an' get a few notes in order for the acolytes. ...you mind?" Kerbasy asks. He looks from one to the other as he does, his smile in place. He practices it in front of mirrors. Totally.

Craft shakes his head, as does the Merchant, chin swaying like a bloated turkey neck, the latter more insistent. "No, no, not at all." With undead bandits running around, having a Mourner around might not be so bad!

Craft: Boshter and Gragnar share stories in the Dragon's Den.

"And that is when I beat him up! And poked him in the eye! It was very good. Let that be a lesson to you. Do not bully people! I do not like bullies. I will tackle them and make them cry." Boshter nods his head, firmly.

Most of those listening are proceeding to buy him drinks just to shut him up.

Gragnar makes a bah noise, having been the one throwing drinks (often literally) at Boshter to make him change the story. "Tell de one about de dragon again!" he bellows. His sports stories had failed to impress earlier, but mostly due to looks of confusion about some of the terminology.

"But I do not want to be that guy! You know the one. The one who is always telling the same story over and over. But okay. I will tell it. There was a mighty dragon in the sky! And I saw it and I said 'I am Boshter! Of Blar1' and it said 'phwoar', and then I said 'PHWOAR' back and then I drank a potion and it made me HUGE!! And then I leapt into the sky and I grabbed its wings and folded it behind them so it could not fly and I brought it down to the ground!" Boshter puffs up his chest. "And then I said! I am Boshter! Of Blar!"

Gragnar laughs, slapping Boshter on the shoulder. "You tell it betta with fewa drinks!" he shares. "I tell ya about da one where I lost my tusk?" he wonders, gesturing with the necklace.

"No, you did not," says Boshter, "Tell it, brother! Tell this story of how you lost your tusk!" Boshter slams his mug into the table hard enough to crack the pewter.

Gragnar beams, and pushes back to rise to his feet, some of the regulars already clearing some space, many of Gragnar's stories coming with vivid and violent demonstrations. "I was a 'ittleun," he says, gesturing a height still taller than several of the shorter folks in the room, but still short for an yrch. "And I'd discovered Bludball!" This draws groans from some tired of the Bludball stories, but gets the interest of some others who are still trying to piece together the rules from his stories. "It was all I played, why play anythin' else? Well, da bigga kids wanted ta play, and I wasn't gonna tell 'em no," he says, gesturing a relative height that would imply the teens who he was playing with were full grown Jotun.

"Of course! Bludball. That is a great game!" Boshter says it in the kind of manner that indicates eh really has no idea what that is.

"Well, dey were bigga than me," Gragnar reminds, "lot bigga. But we played, and I was runnin' past with da ball when one of them swung a fist at my face," he says, gesturing the swing at his broken tusk, and completing it with a tumble to the ground. "Broke my tusk right off!" he says, gesturing from the floor with the necklace. "'n' I'd just gotten my adult tusks too!"

"Wow! That is very impressive!" Boshter says, "Must've hurt, but it is a good story! Did you punch him very hard back?" He asks.

"Well, I still had the ball," Gragnar laughs, gesturing clinging it to his chest. "So dey kicked me a few times," he says, rising to his feet, and den I got up and tried ta pound 'em into the dirt!" he says, pounding on his broad chest proudly. as he moves back towards his seat.

"You better have pounded them!" agrees Boshter, firmly, waving a hand at him. Then more ale is drained. Proudly.

"Nope," Gragnar laughs. "They beat me inta the mud!" he says, beaming. "But I didn't stop 'til I couldn' move!" He slaps Boshter on the back. "I lost, they were bigga dan me, and dere we two of 'em, but I didn't jus' lie down at da first hit! Nah, I made 'em work for it, I fought back hard as I could. Dat's the important thing!"

"That is very right!" Boshter points a finger at him. "You did well, then, sir. You did very well against foes stronger and tougher than you and showed them that you were made of steel!" He nods his head up and down again. "HIS NEXT DRINK IS ON ME."

Gragnar nods his agreement. "Da game's not ova 'til it's ova! I lost a tusk, but one of their noses is still crooked," he says with a deep, belly laugh.

"Damn right," agrees Boshter. "I will have to learn about this one day! More, I mean. I have never played it. I imagine I would be good at it, though, if there is a lot of punching and kicking!" Probably too good, honestly.

There's no such thing as TOO good at a game. "I'll teach ya sumtime! Da temple's got a big field we could use," Gragnar says, gladly accepting his drink from the barman, downing it quickly.

"Okay! We will do this. We will try to get a full team, then? How many people are needed?!" Boshter asks, excitedly. He's looking very pleased!

"Long as dey even," Gragnar says, wiping the foam from his mouth. "But da more da betta!" He thinks for a moment. "22's da max, though."

"Okay. Then we will get people and we will do this because it will be very good"! BOshter nods his head up and down.

Gragnar grins, and raises a glass to make it official.

And so does Boshter, actually, cheering.

Craft:

It's another busy day in the market, the usual citizens buying their day to day goods, would be adventurers purchasing their first weapons and armors, the more seasoned adventurers making resupply runs. There's also some activity far less visible, and significantly less common. Vendors buying from other vendors. Those rare vendors that deal in raw materials either as their primary business, or have the connections to make raw materials available upon request. One of the better customers for such goods is in one such stall today. The golem Craft looks through reels of copper wire, reeling out just enough between tridactyl fingers to examine the gauge, then setting the spool down and grabbing another. This goes on for several minutes, but soon the golem's on his way, with a wheelbarrow full of dark metal, with a spool of wire resting ontop, rocking briefly before falling to nestle into a gap as he makes his way down the street.

Moonshadow has been wandering the market herself. Able to wander through the crowd without hurting anyone or even coming close to hurting else, she uses the intricate steps of a strange, and flowing dance, or it seems that way to the casual eye. Of course, said 'dance' brings her close to Craft as he wheels his newly bought spools down the street. "Greetings Craft." She says as he passes nearby. "Spools of wire? What do you need them for?"

"I had an idea for how to improve my 'death ray,'" Craft says, the words more metallic than the rest, the golem's vocal equivalent of disapproving air quotes. "But I will need lots of wire to accomplish it." He nods towards the metal. "And further adamantine, to replace what I've already used from my old stores." While she navigates the crowd with fluid grace, he mostly just pushes along, letting folks clear a path. It's fairly efficient, not many people wanting to get in the way of a 260 pound golem in full armor pushing a cart weighed down with even more metal. He looks about briefly, and adjusts course to head towards a storefront with a sign hanging outside the door reading "Craft's Crafts."

Following behind Craft, Moonshadow lets the crowd part the way for them until they get to craft's shop. "Interesting sign. People would never guess you worked here." She says with a light chuckle. "Death ray?" She clearly hasn't seen too many artificers. "Can you explain what it is? and uh.....try not to get too detailed in it, since I don't know too much about......that."

"What they call an artificer's ranged weapon," Craft explains. "It's really more like a firearm that doesn't require ammunition, shooting magical energy instead." He gets the door open, muscling the wagon through and back behind the counter, where the weapon in question is laid out on a worktable, surrounded by far more fine and delicate tools than the ones hanging from a holster by the anvil and forge. The starts of a suit of armor can be seen resting off to one side, and ongoing project of the same dark metal that now resides in the wheelbarrow. Craft retrieves the spool, setting it next to the weapon, and gesturing for her to come take a look.

Moonshadow walks carefully on over and tilts her head. "Interesting." She says taking a look at it. "If it uses pure magical energy however, why not attach it to a gauntlet, and fire it that way?" She then shrugs. "An idea, nothing more." She says as she watches Craft work on the death ray.

"That works fine for things that are meant to be activated once a day," he says, tapping a bracer without even looking up at it, pulling a disk from the pocket of his apron, activating it with a touch, it's sides rotating out to form spider-like legs that carry it to a seemingly pre-designated spot. Craft keeps his work area very neat and orderly, even the way the unfinished armor lies in the corner seems very deliberate and organized. "But this needs to hold it's own chargeable energy source." He begins cutting long lengths of the supple wire, each looking long enough to wrap around something rather large indeed. "Crossbow's about as small as I can make it."

Moonshadow says, "It was only an idea, like I said. I guess I favor my hands a bit too much." She says holding up her hands, showing the bracers depicting the Silver Disc boldy made upon it. "Can't make it too small, huh?""

"As do I," Craft says, and slips on a bracer of his own. By some unseen trigger, a metal disc on the outside unfolds and a shield of shimmering energy forms. Weightless and all but invisible once the initially chaotic energies settle. To prove a point, he resumes work, the shield not interfering with his work in the least.

Moonshadow tilts her head and watches the golem work. She doesn't interrupt him at all, but actually watches while staying out of his way. "It's powered by magic? SO a wizard could pour more power into it? Or a sorcerer could add to it's power?"

"If they understood it well enough, perhaps," Craft says, starting to make a large net with the wires, soldering them in place. "But, mine is different from another artificer's, so I wouldn't even necessarily be able to charge one crafted by another artificer." He stops, and considers the smaller instruments on the table. "These are all charged by me," he explains, "but I figured out early on how to make them retain the energy until used. You could use this bracer as easily as I."

Moonshadow smiles a bit and shakes her head. "I wouldn't know what to do with a shield." She says tapping her bracers. "I'm used to blocking things with my arms and hands. I'm not very used to using weapons at all." She then looks at the other items that Craft says are charged by him. "Nice. So only you can use these?"

"Once they're expended, yes," Craft says. He gestures to the smaller instruments, from the easily palmed to something that looks a lot like an artificed torch with a crystal where the wick should be. "These all will retain the energy until used. Only the ray actually requires me to be the one handling it."

Moonshadow says, "Interesting. I almost wish I knew the surrounding knowledge for it." She then tilts her head to Craft. "Unfortunately, living in a Monastery tends to make you think more on instinct than moch else. Especially when you're training your body to fight in potentially dealy situations."

Craft looks to Moonshadow then. "It's not for everyone. I came to it late," he explains, gesturing to the anvil. "I started crafting more... direct things. Fewer delicate components."

Moonshadow says, "I can appreciate that. More of the direct things need to be made, like armor and weapons, but some of the magical part of them tend to fascinate me. I guess it's the influence of the Silver Disc." She says with a shrug. "I can't use magic myself though."

Craft nods. "I primarily use it as an energy source," he admits. "It's an energy I've learned to channel and manipulate, but I cannot simply will it to be like a sorceror or wizard, or call it from whatever source the Clerics summon it from," he explains. "I am inherently magical, so perhaps it comes easy for me, but still, it is artifice to which I'm most drawn."

Moonshadow nodnods. "Like the martial art for me. Though I'm not like Azog, and simply try to hack my opponents into pieces with brute force, I figure I can avoid most blows without using heavy armor at all." She then lightly taps on the shoulder of Craft. "So that's what keeps you together, hmm?"

"Keeps me mobile, at least," Craft says. "I'm coming to understand the process more and more as I learn more of artifice, but there's still many questions. I once met a Golem who had been brought back from the dead into the body of an elf. It was somewhat comforting to have conformation of a soul," he says, turning from his work.

Moonshadow smiles. "Well, if you ask 'Am I alive?', it tends to point out that you are alive." She then chuckles. "and have a soul." She then moves back from behind the counter. "Plus, if I remember correctly, you enjoy helping people as well. So that shows you haev a kind soul."

"I will help those who are with me," Craft says, and, on a sound from a door, opens it onto a stair, a large, wolfish hound coming out to investigate the visitors, "and protect those close to me, but I would not say I am kind," he says. "During the war, I smashed the head of a guard who did not even see me coming. His people would have made me and others into slaves, tools of another. The things I do, I chose to do. That is what makes me alive, not any sort of self awareness."

Moonshadow says, "Just because you are kind doesn't mean you sit back and let people turn you into something you're not. If you were truly mean, you would have attacked me for what I am, and not be standing ehre talking to me." She says holding her hand down to the wolfhound. "and this dog sees you're kind as well.""

"I do not understand the racial biases of organics," Craft says. "You do not change that much, a half-elf varies little from a human, and little from an elf. An oruch varies from a jotun only in hue and scale. It was a long process even learning the differences you all place such import on. Even Arvek Nar, which had attempted to enslave me, it was the ones from a kingdom, and there were those amongst my companions in the war who were part of that race." He scratches behind the dog's ears. "Your kind seems to focus so much on what makes one different, not what makes them the same." He gestures between the two organics in the room. "This dog and you both eat, drink, sleep, and have senses beyond sight and hearing. You two share more than I share with you, and yet you would consider me more similar to you, yes?"

Moonshadow says, "That's the way of 'organics'. You spoke of souls, as do I. It's why I consider you similar. You don't have to eat, drink, and more to be considered 'alive'." She then gestures towards the dog. "In that regard, the dog is also similar to us, but not in body type." She then puts her hand upon her chest. "It's what's in here that counts, not the shell that was given to us." She then smiles a bit. "Do you dream when you 'sleep'?" She air-quotes 'sleep'."

"I do not sleep," Craft says. "And never have. It has left me with plenty of time for my pursuits," he says, gesturing around the shop. "I must take the time to recharge my tools, but that is more a restful moment than actual sleeping."

Moonshadow shrugs. "Another thought." She says before she turns towards the door. 'I'd better get going then. I hope to see you helping others again, Craft."

Craft nods to Moonshadow. "Be well," he wishes. "I enjoyed the conversation."

Moonshadow smiles and waves. "As did I, Craft."

Light green skinned, tall, graceful. All of these words can be used to describe this dark haired, green skinned woman. She has light green eyes, an angular face that seems to be always smiling in one form or another, and an athletic yet feminine body that moves with a dancer's grace. Her hair is colored black with a couple of locks of hair colored dark red.

Created shortly before the great purge, Craft was, as much as any War golem ever was, made for battle. Strong, durable, and as agile as frankly matters with his adamantine form. However, he never saw a single battle. His position attacked before he could be activated, it wouldn't be until some artificer uncovered his intact and ready for activation body that he would spring to life, and it would be years later, after the artificer met with an accident involving a malfunctioning Creation Forge, a particularly spiky construct, and a mistranslated warning sign, that Craft began to operate as an individual, even if sentience might have taken a while after that. Self preservation turned to awareness turned to sentience.

It was during this time of wandering that Craft saw battle, never anything particularly elaborate, a bandit here, a small skirmish there, fighting merely for his own survival. He found himself having to upkeep his own equipment and form, and, as his skill grew, he found himself taking a pride in the craftsmanship, and gave himself a name. As time continued, moving from settlement to settlement, he came to learn of religion, but found little draw, simply declaring himself a follower of the god of the forge whenever he deemed it important to 'pick a side' as it were.

It was on his way to Alexandros that he came across a young, orphaned pup. There was a curiosity there, and, from the dog's end, a rather unconditional sort of affection, something new for the generally taciturn construct. It was an almost symbiotic relationship. The construct's martial prowess helped to win the dog food, and the dog gave the construct some much needed practice understanding those of flesh and blood, their needs, wants, and expressions.

It was after the dog had grown to some age that Craft was captured by Bludgunni forces, and forced into slavery. Before long, he was rescued by Alexandrian irregulars operating within the city. Wishing to prevent anyone else's will from being forcefully subjugated to another's, Craft joined the insurgents, finding success and companions, as well as some talent for artifice, an outgrowing of his craftsman nature. Towards the very end of the fighting, Craft was injured, severely. Though he survived, and repaired himself to functional shape, his adamantine plating was marred beyond his immediate ability to repair. Something of a perfectionist, he stripped the plating from his form, storing it, rigging his body to accept the attachment of other armors, the first of which he has just finished, having taken some of his old plating and crafted it into a new weapon for himself.
